Just an FYI for everyone. I just pulled the xenon bulbs out of my 9S. The running light connector melted from it. |

Try the Sylvania Silver Star (in 55w), much better than stock and won't melt your housing or connections. |

the 100watt hid blue ones from asb.com seem to be workin fine u can FEEL the heat from them in front of the light itself but nothin melted so far i asked the asb guy if he thought they would melt anything n he said 1000s sold not 1 complaint yet |

I have the PIAA Crystal Ion lights and I believe they are higher wattage....anyone know? Anyways, I have them wired so both are on all of them time....I a XB9S. I've been running it for over a year like this and no problems at all. Strange on how some people have problems and others don't. |

I used 100watt xenon bulbs in my 9s (by mistake) the plastic lens,started to discolour and turn opaque!!!! and the connector & intermediate wiring started to melt after only a weeks usuage....BE WARNED ! stick to the 55watt recomended. |

Yeah...I'm with Stoobr2...same exact problem. It took a month for me though. Messed up my lens...it's all foggy now, and the connector melted. It actually crumbled in my hand when I went to replace what I thought was a blown bulb. |

are we talking about real xenon HID lights ?? ore just some high watt bulb's because real xenon lights will have @ 35watt and 8ooo K , 3 time's more light than normal bulb's with-out the heat and you will need a transformer as well to give it the 15ooo volt spark it needs edited by bud on May 25, 2004 |

Bud, I believe you are correct - I think these guys are speaking of "HID Look" lamps... Like you said a transformer (ballast) is required... See here: HID FAQs

I got mine off eBay. They came in two little white boxes that had "H7 12V Super White" and "Attention: This is intended for offroad use only" printed on them. They are blue colored glass with a silver tip. We're not talking about a real HID system, just bulbs. |

This is what I found about the PIAA Crystal Ion headlights that I have: In a world of white bulbs for automobiles, motorcycles, and other recreational vehicles, you have just chosen PIAA's specialty class: Yellow Ion Crystal! If you are already a previous customer of these PIAA bulbs, then we won't take up your time- you already KNOW they're the highest quality Ion Crystal bulbs available on the market. However, if you are thinking of crossing over into premium bulb territory for the first time, here's some specific information on these H7 Ion Crystal bulbs and the technologies that go into making them so powerful, popular, and ultra bright. As for bulbs specifics, these Yellow Ion Crystal bulbs have an intensely bright amber color (such as those on higher-end Lexus models) and they are rated 100W versus the standard 55W that average H7 halogen bulbs achieve. Like we said though, PIAA bulbs are not the least bit average. Through Ion Crystal and Plasma technologies, PIAA bulbs are able to take the power from your headlights and maximize it, thus leading to the amber-white light they shine. PIAA has accomplished this by using special gas mixtures inside the bulbs, upgrading the filament and all conducting materials, and using a special yellow plasma ion coating on the bulb to achieve a color and shine that doesn’t weaken or fade out. The wattage doesnt dictate the brightness of the bulb but the measurement for brightness is called lumens. If you increase the wattage the current will increase according to the table below given the same voltage. Also an increase in current increases heat. Be careful with wiring connections. p= watts i= amps (current) e= volts AMPS= WATTS÷VOLTS I = P ÷ E A = W ÷ V WATTS= VOLTS x AMPS P = E x I W = V x A VOLTS= WATTS ÷ AMPS E = P ÷ I V = W ÷ A I am currently testing the silverstar bulbs in my pickup. I have one light normal halogen and the other one silverstar. Im checking the difference. It does appear whiter hopefully it will las as long . Hmmmm.. Just looked at PIAA's website.. according to a quick glance.. H3 Ion Crystals are 55W = 85W, yellow tinted less reflective/refractive light, great for inclement weather. When PIAA refers to wattage, there is the draw and the 'visual' output. They seem to often mention this V-O as (similar) 100w, This would be viewing power, not actual draw on your system. Of course, there could also be heat issues, so be careful (as noted elsewhere on BadWeb). It looks as though, in an H3 series bulb, the best may be to go with something in the 4K-5K range, this will give you the best Blue/True White light available. May also give you a bit better view of what's in front of you as well as being able to be seen from farther away. Just some thoughts.. Later, |

I'm running the Sylvania Silver Star in my Harley (H4 bulb) About $22, 55W. Turning it on in my dark garage, the light is much whiter, none of the yellowish light associated with standard bulbs. I believe Sylvania says you get 100 hours out of the Silver Star bulb. So far I'm happy with it. I'll try the H3 bulbs on the Firebolt when the opportunity arises. |

Yeah, I've was watching them very closely, but I've been running them both on for over a yr with zero problems at all. I'm going to assume that they draw 55 watts and output 100 watts OR I have a SUPER strong headlight housing on my XB9S which is heat proof!! I get positive comments on my yellowish headlights all of the time which to me means I'm noticed which means maybe less cars pulling out in front of me. That's my theory anyway.

i think ill either be sending my 100 wattrs back or just ordering the 55s can actually FEEL the heat off em TWO FEET IN FRONT of the damn bike |

I have some bulbs sitting around from my TL1000 days. They are made by Raybrig in Japan and are hyper halogen 3,850k. It says that the pull is 60/55w and brightness is 130/125w and the rest is in Japanese that I can't read. I was thinking about trying these but does anyone know if they will just melt everything? |
