Did my first oil change on the EBR today. Not very difficult, but a couple of observations I thought I'd share here for posterity:

1) I don't think there's anything in the manual about whether to drain the left hand side with the bike on the side stand. That's the norm on my other bikes, so I chose to do it this way on the EBR as well. Except the drain plug is right next to the side stand, so I had to stand the bike in the oil pan. Messy! When you do this for the first time, make sure you have kitchen foil on hand. It helps guide the oil as it exits the bike.

2) For the refill I also had the bike on the side stand. This photo shows the oil level after I'd refilled just 2.5 quarts! Disconcerting!! It's perhaps not surprising, because the oil hasn't yet been pumped where it needs to go (including the new oil filter I installed). I started the bike up for a couple of minutes and that dropped the level so i could continue filling confidently. Thought I'd share this also, in case anyone else discovers the same and is wondering.

Doesn't that oil look good enough to drink? The bike definitely seems happier with a fresh batch of Amsoil on board.

I noticed that you should follow the manual precisely as written.

The little things. Do the 'cold' check to make sure there's enough to start it, then it must be ridden, not just warmed up in the garage, and remove the fill cap (!?) to do the 'hot check'.

I thought "Balderdash! Why remove the cap? theres a breather hole in it, what difference could it make?" Then I unscrewed the cap and watched the level go down right before my eyes.

There is also a strainer the case just above the muffler primary pipe, good idea to remove and clean that as well. It holds a few tablespoons of old oil and junk.

Removing the strainer after the first oil change isn't really necessary.

Warm it up, let cool for 5, drain, replace filter and fill

Do yourself a favor and get stands..

The pump filter, both my 1125CR AND my RX, had garbage in it. So yea, eventually, it just might be a good idea to not let it go too long before pulling the muffler and cleaning that screen.

And...JUST "warming it up". What exactly does that mean ?
I let mine run a little until it registers on the gauge, then take it for a cruse around the block for five or or so minutes.

THEN...change the oil and filter.

And yes, the flat Allan plug (opposite the kick stand), pull it, then lean the bike to that side until the oil is done coming out.

If you need written instructions on how to warm up a motorcycle then you might want to go trade that in for an e-scooter..
