I haven't given up on the pistol caliber lever project. But I'm willing to consider some unicorns. So far, there's no law says I can't do both.

Pistol caliber lever guns are rare as heck, locally. I'm not the first to consider them a loophole to useful fire power. Not the first to think of the "one caliber" logistics solution by a century & a half.

As to the difference between "defense" & a "fire fight", I contend there is none. Odds are any physical attack are from multiple opponents. Street gangs that beat their mugging victims to death vary in number from 3-6, according to my best information. The local deputies agree. Antifa, or the Leftist Flash Mobs sent to chase you from a restaurant or other public place, are also groups larger than 3. Six? A dozen? How many will be throwing rocks through my Windows as they break into my house?

It's far more likely there are more targets than a five shot Bodyguard .38 can handle without reloading than not.

My limited experience tells me the only survivable strategy in multi attacker scenarios, is brutal, over the top, aggressiveness. The tactical norms of maneuver to limit enemy approach and take them on only one, or two at a time, certainly applies, a necessity. But to get the psychological space to run away, or get them to break off the attack, you have to abandon the rules of polite society. No gentlemanly conduct. You want to have screaming, crippled attackers rolling on the ground, to influence the rest. Sick? No. Practical.

It's easier if there are fewer. If only 3, your odds are much better than 6. The Governor's limit of 7 rounds in a gun just makes mob attacks more common.

Cops who get paid to train often can't hit one criminal with 7 shots. I don't have unrealistic expectations based on ego that I can stop 7 with 7.

From training, I may get 2 with 6. I am not up to taking bets.

Until the new Henry, your choice for pointy bullet lever guns was the 1895 & the Savage 99. Both out of production. Neither available to my knowledge in .223.

Really??

"King did not mention that Gabby Giffords’ attacker passed a background check for his gun, as did the November October 1, 2017, Las Vegas gunman, the June 12, 2016, Orlando Pulse gunman, the October 1, 2015, Umpqua Community College gunman, the May 23, 2014, Santa Barbara gunman, the July 20, 2012, Aurora movie theater gunman, and the November 5, 2009, Ft. The killer at the Connecticut school didn't bother with a background check when he killed his mom and stole her guns, either.

Woo-hoo.

Yesterday - January FIFTEENTH - was the first day this year that Chicago has had NO gun violence. I think they said either 51 or 54 people have been killed this year, so far, in Chicago.

Yea. Gun control works GREAT. Black market is rockin', and law-abiding people can't defend themselves if the need arises.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-12-22/gun-conf iscation-heres-how-it-might-actually-go-down

This is a repeat post. Worth reading, as it's written by one who was there when the armed thugs come in unstoppable force to take your legal, registered guns.

And if you resist, your home will be burned down around you and your family.

Like here in the U.S.A. Remember Waco?

The section on ownership, and prediction of the future is key. I won't quote it here, for a Reason! Read it!

End rant.

Home tips!

Large diameter pvc pipe for repair of your waste water lines is smart to have handy, and can save quite a "mess". I recommend the primer & glue combination for sure water proof assembly. It's worked well for me doing plumbing for the last decade.

I don't have any experience with the plastic Harbor freight "ammo boxes" used as ground reinforcement under yard benches, I don't know how moisture resistant, long term, they are.

https://mtmcase-gard.com/products/shooting/survivo rammocan.php

These are excellent, if small, ground reinforcement for light yard sculptures and benches. A bit pricy, compared to HF Chinese junk, but nigh perfect to stabilize the dirt under a swing lounge ( the Amish built ones are popular locally ) especially if filled with metal stuff for weight. Does a good job keeping yard furniture from sinking in the mud.

I welcome other home improvement project suggestions.

Molon Labe is a great battle cry, but not a smart yard sign.

For credit rating/business purposes I have one card i use for fuel. It gets paid every month. One car loan and mortgages on two homes is the extent of my debt. Credit cards can kiss my pale a$$.

Debit cards don't have the protection credit cards do. I only use mine to take money out of an ATM.

I also don't have any financial services in my phone. If I use a credit card over the phone, I'm giving it by voice to a human. No connection between phone and bank. No passwords or account numbers. It's a phone, kindle, and casual surfer only. ( when does the store close? )

Correction, my badweb password in on it. When I start advocating Global Warming hysteria, you know I've been hacked.

But my, and your, habits are not the issue here. This is about evil men pressuring banks to destroy gun businesses. From the manufacturer to the local shop. No loans, no credit, and if your credit card using neighbor wants to buy a gun, or ammo, they want to forbid his purchase. What they can't do legally, steal your property and rights, they'll do underhanded and "subtle". By punishing you and removing your choices.

In NY the Governor illegally destroyed and drove out insurance companies that offered liability coverage for gun owners forced to defend themselves.

And.... Odds are good they'll pass a Bill in NY requiring liability insurance to possess a gun.

Which, oh, look! Is not available. Better surrender your property or you are a felon!

It's already illegal for us to go to the range, and you to let me try your S&W or me to let you try my Charter Arms. Let your son shoot your Colt Woodsman .22 while you supervise and train him? Forbidden.

The bill to make that Federal law is up for a vote in the House. I won't even be able to give my niece a rifle without going through a licensed gun dealer, paying a fee, and an as yet to be determined tax with no upper limit.

And when you can't buy terrorism supplies, like ammo, primers, powder, or bullets, get back to me on how your fiscal wisdom is going.....

Because cash is going illegal. Every transaction can't be monitored with cash. Drugs are a crisis!

So instead of enforcing the law, especially at the border, they'll crack down on You.

And if the above sounds paranoid, my Governor already told everyone that if they don't agree with him on guns, abortion, drugs, or, anything, we should leave His State.

It's his way or the highway.

And they are working on the plan to tax me completely out of being able to sell my home and leave the State.

Catch twenty F-U.

http://thefederalist.com/2019/01/17/anti-gun-democ rats-purchase-of-meateater-could-pose-big-problems -for-hunter-focused-company/

Beware of fake pro hunting groups.

Especially beware of those who say things like "I won't go hunting with someone with an AR-15" Those telling you that semiautomatic guns aren't for hunting, & by golly, Clem, a Bolt action is good enough for me!

They are trying to split people into easily destroyed groups.

Semiautomatic rifles have been used for more than a century, to hunt everything.

The failure to sell large numbers of 'semis as Elephant rifles is due to the high costs of making a tiny amount of guns to handle the big Nitro cartridges. But if you really want firepower, a Garand customized to shoot .458 Winchester Magnum was available. I don't know how heavy it is, but it's got to kick less than a featherweight .300 RUM.

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/07/06/ooo d-mccann-industries-458-win-mag-garand/

I know a couple of local smiths who might build one for you. If so, let me know, and we can start a heating pad thread.

Debit cards don't have the protection credit cards do.

Only true in some cases.

Orange County's Credit Union as well as Delta Community Credit Union have 0% fraud liability on their debit cards.

Excellent points in that article - granted, an extreme situation, but then again...ANY situation where a citizen has to use a firearm to protect themselves, is extreme. Good on the homeowner for keeping himself out of the line of fire long enough to fire that many rounds.

But of course, none of that will ever hit the mainstream.

On a more cheerful topic.

Collection Themes.

What theme has your collection of weapons?

My collection had 2 themes. Experiments, like a Scout version SKS. ( too heavy for Cooper's spec sheet, but otherwise, good )

I trimmed my pile down to avoid confiscation, but the remains don't suck.

And Best Of. Or best affordable. I don't have the budget for bespoke English doubles, but a Browning 20 ga. side by side qualified. Best Autoloading shotgun, Winchester Super X 2. Best pump, originally a Winchester Lady Defender in 20 ga. Then it got sold to a buddy with injury related recoil issues, So Remington 870. ( also experimental with a Knoxx stock, factory model, btw )

In rifles, Ruger 10/22. Bushmaster Varminter, for target and varmints. Winchester '94, ( traded a cherry Yugo SKS for it. I'd never fired the SKS, turns out it's horribly inaccurate. Oops ) No finish, but good bore, action smooth, shoots good. The king of the lever guns.... In production alone, as well as first smokeless powder American success. Iconic American.

No bolt guns, though, have stuck. The Savage, Weatherby Vanguard & Ruger American, are the New Cheap Accurate rifles that perform beyond rational expectation. Better than $2000+ custom guns of my youth. So they'd fit, but I've never desired them enough.

Here we get into flame war opinions. The Lee Enfields just seem heavy & crude. The Mausers nicely made but heavy and just not my thing. They qualify, and are the pattern for most bolt guns in the 20th century, including.... The Springfield '03. Which is an important part of my youth, but not for me... Just never needed one. The Model 1917! Arguably the best bolt action Combat rifle of all time. And I just passed on a cherry Eddystone model, because at over a grand I just couldn't justify a rifle I'd shoot so seldom. Close call. I love the Garand, but like Corvettes, I'm happy to enjoy someone else's and let them pay for it while I can admire it & walk away.

I'll discuss pistols another rant. ; )

I'm going to rebuild the collection, and am interested in your opinions, your themes, and certainly why I'm wrong. : )

The Savage 99 is on my short list, but the prices have gone too high for me. Shoulda bought earlier.

And the Winchester model 70 Featherweight gets the nod for prettiest production rifle, it's just a matter of time before the right one in the right caliber catches me in a weak moment.

Ditto the Ruger #1. I came soooo close to buying one in .458 Win Mag. I have zero need for a Rhino gun, but I almost talked myself into it. So cute. So insane. Another, in a different caliber, will cross my path.

The Big Apple has some restrictions. NY has lots of weird hunting restrictions. But you can buy a crossbow or compound bow out in the rest of the state pretty easily. This week. Next?

The current push is Social Media inquisition. You have to provide passwords and submit to an unspecified inspection of your communications and posts to determine your worthiness to be armed.

Refusing access will no doubt be cause to revoke my pistol permits, and deny me the right to buy any arms, and probably ammo.

I'm curious if they will demand access to my internet provider records of my internet use.

If I erase the one written record of my Facebook password, what will they do if I honestly say I don't know it? The ancient computer I signed up with Facebook on, has the password in a cookie. But, seriously, after I entered the password twice, and wrote it down, I never entered it again. ( and I'm not sure where I wrote it, one of two places, my password notebook, or a post it note to be entered & destroyed )

I figure it doesn't matter. Facebook will be happy to give a dictatorship everything.

If my internet provider gives my surfing records to the Holy Cuomo Empire, then Badweb will be obvious. Is this forum Social Media to be inquisition inspected?

If so, no password required. All posts are public.

And, honestly, if I was a tool of the Socialist Masters, reading Aesquire's radical centrist Liberal Western Civilization Enlightenment views would make me terrified that someone like him is armed, knows more about history and failed utopian murderous idealists than the Emperor, has zero respect for self proclaimed gods, and was walking the streets.

I sure as heck would cancel his rights.

An impartial observer would note a voice that repeatedly states that assassins through history always fail in their intent, and thus it's not only immoral, it's counter productive. That I'm a classic constitutional patriot, who loathes the enemies of Western Civilization, and loyal to my Nation, not any Party.

Aka, a serious threat to the New Green Order.

At this point I'm certain my rights will be violated. I'm just not sure if I'll have Jack boots kicking down my door and masked, armored, and machine gun toting thugs burning my house down with incendiary gear has grenades. Or if they'll just surround the place and reenact the scene from the movie RED.

Yep, they'll read this and go for the burn the house down around him solution.

Sarcasm. Cassandra. Joking?

Of course I will completely cooperate with all legal requirements. Even if I have to ask Facebook to email me my password to comply. No problemo.

I'm just curious how it will all work out, and what checks on abuse of power will be included. In the draft so far published? None. But I may have missed them. And it hasn't yet passed, so what is voted on May have little resemblance to the public documents.

Also, it's an interesting opportunity for a new career. Much better pension benefits, a whole new Union to pay dues to, and maybe an introduction to politics from a unique perspective.
