Death of HHS official Daniel Best is ruled a suicide
quote:WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Nov. 1 death of Daniel Best, a pharmaceutical executive from Bay Village who led U.S. Department of Health and Human Services efforts to lower prescription drug prices, has been ruled a suicide, officials in Washington, D.C., said Thursday. Police say Best was found "unresponsive" near the garage door exit of an apartment building in Washington, D.C.'s Navy Yard neighborhood at 5:25 a.m. on Nov. 1, and was pronounced dead by medical personnel who responded to the scene. The city's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Thursday said Best died from "multiple blunt force injuries" and it ruled his death a suicide. It would not release further information.
Call me skeptical, but I think there may be more to this story. Are we to believe that he beat himself to death in the garage of his apartment building? Does that pass the smell test these days? |

If you're fooled by fake news, this man probably wrote it ‘Nothing on this page is real’: How lies become truth in online America So now the fake news on FarceBook had nothing to do with Russians. It was a liberal in Maine, who is now written about as more of a hero. Odd how he's not demonized when he lays claim to making fools of those who would believe his fictional garbage, even if the actions are exactly the same as what they have, pretty much without evidence that I've seen, blamed on Russians up to this point. They even manage to point out how these fake stories serve to further divide our country, but praise him for his hateful responses to some who have promoted his fake stories. They do point out that he eventually started making it clear on his website that his stories were fake. I'm not sure how that gets made known when it's promoted on FB, if at all. Of course, the implication here is that for an unknown amount of time, he was very happy not making the fictional status of his writings clear. Of course this isn't the sort of person that FB claims uses their media in this way either. He lays claim to "masquerading" as a conservative on FB using fake ID's. He brags of getting those who would Like and comment on his writings suspended or banned from FB. He even brags that some have been fired from jobs over their trolled for comments. Was FB really unaware of their media being used this way? Is it true that this A-hole had as big of a FB presence as is claimed, or is that just the left wing media trying to build him into a hero? If he was anything near as big of a thing as claimed, how did FB not become aware of what was going on and take corrective action? It's interesting that his claimed website appears to have been scrubbed of everything, including anything that would make it clear that it deals in satire or fiction. They write about him "In his writing Blair was blunt, witty and prolific, and gradually he’d built a liberal following on the Internet and earned a full-time job as a political blogger." I wonder who, exactly has given this writer of lies a position as a blogger? Apparently, that information seems worth keeping quiet about. What's clear to me is that this wasn't someone writing political satire for entertainment of the readers, such as the Onion does. It was done to be spiteful of those who could believe a story about something like Michelle Obama and Chelsea Clinton flipping off President Trump (though false, is it really inconceivable?) to chastise and belittle those people. He may be a hero to some on the left, including media, but he's no hero to our country, or to truth. I wonder what FB's stance is on this piece of crap? |

https://m.france24.com/en/20181130-trump-new-york- times-cnn-american-media-acosta-press-fox-news I frequently enrage people by blaming CNN etc. For Trump. The Republicans had 16 candidates. 16! Few people remember more than 4. The girl the press hated for some reason, the Black brain surgeon the press hated for some reason, until we found out that Egyptology was a presidential requirement. Lying Ted. And Donald Soundbite Trump. Any of the other candidates could have had the secret to World Peace, economic growth, and the cure for cancer, and MSNBC wouldn't give them a single second of airtime. But no! Sound bites sell commercials, Trump gave the best sound bites, so Trump made them the most money. And even better! Trump was a sure loser to the Queen Bee. Hillary was the Chosen One. I'm surprised they didn't apply a lightning bolt makeup scar. By pushing Trump to get the nomination, even joking aloud about it, the Democrat Party propaganda companies thought they'd found the perfect way to win. No wonder they are filled with rage for the last 2 years, it's deflected self disgust. |

https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2018/12/05/ann -coulter-bushs-finest-30-seconds-the-willie-horton -ad I fear Donald may set himself up for the next generation version with his prison reform push. I'm not sure on that, since all I know is what anti-Trump media says. ( conservative exploitation media? ) But with the ongoing "coarsening" trend in politics where blunt rude insulting talk has replaced civil discourse, ( factually or fake news ) I can predict an opponent for Trump in 2020, that will use the "Willie Horton" ad method to challenge Donald. A buddy told me I should take Ecstasy and run for office, shutting down my filters, and unleashing my inner beotch. He just wants to see the Media burn with fury as I challenge reporter's questions with quizzes on Aristophanese and Sophocles, and force editors to look up medieval and Byzantine references as I mock my opponents with views they don't get. Tempting. |

Hey I like government checks. Just filed for SSI last Sept and got a nice fat deposit for Oct-Dec. Of course, it IS my money, I hope to live long enough to get it all back. My pop told me a few years ago that he has made more off GM in retirement pension than active pay. He worked for GMAC 22 years. Z |

So this Doak person thinks they should abide by the gag order so the public at large doesn't know what's going on, and thus impact the potential outcome? In other words, use a lie of omission to steer public opinion? No thanks. Get the facts OUT - ACCURATE facts - and let the public make their own decisions, not the decisions that Doak is trying to make for the public at large. THAT is what a free press is supposed to do. Objective exposition of FACT. F A C T . No spin. No opinion. No "use this/forget that". Get it ALL out there so people can be informed, and decide. |

The logic is, we don't want a mistrial because people who know a murderer ( or in this case, rapist ) was convicted in one case are unable to forget it in his next trial. The ignorance is fair notion. I don't agred, but I understand. A mean spirited person would suggest keeping the convicted in a cell with macrame supplies and sturdy ceiling hooks. Anger management therapy. |

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/12/how -the-liberal-press-shapes-the-news.php The whole question of gag orders is a problem. National security, the recipe for nerve gas, may be good reasons. Protect a reputation, no. To ensure an ignorant jury pool? Darwin does that anyway. Actually the lawyers do,by rejecting folk who admit to an opinion. I've put off jury duty for surgery, but otherwise I show up and am secure that no lawyer would allow me to serve if I have an attitude he doesn't like. |

I've only been summoned twice, but dismissed both times for exactly the reasons Aesquire noted. Well the second, the first time (assault case) is a good story. When the judge was paneling us about our general experiences in courtrooms for both criminal and civil cases. I mentioned I had sued the Chief of Police some years earlier for a permit to carry a firearm. Incidentally in the same judicial district, and the judge for that case was just down the hall. (It was then that I found out there was a retired police chief from another city, who had been a working cop in my city at the time of the suit, sitting in the row behind me in this same jury pool. He remembered the case, and the buzz in the department at the time.) The judge asked for more information, and asked my grounds for the suit. I told him that the chief had let his discretionary option time to deny, defined in the statute, lapse, and under that same law, lack of timely denial "shall be deemed a grant thereof". The judge asked if I was successful and I replied no, but I'm confident I would have been successful on appeal. He asked why I felt so sure. I replied that the City attorney argued to stretch the submission timeline by calling my application incomplete, (despite my dated receipt), until the chief's lieutenant talked to me by phone the following week. The problem is the first line at the top the application states that an incomplete application "will be denied". There is flawed logic. If all applications are incomplete without a phone call, and all incomplete will be denied, why bother calling? If that is true, how does anyone "complete" an application under that framework? I believed the judge in that case bet the safe bet, held with the cops he works with daily, over the disgruntled citizen on a one off lucky fluke lawsuit, that I wouldn't appeal. The judge thought about that and asked a bit sternly if I was so confident, why didn't I appeal. I replied lawyers cost money. An appeal would easily be $2-3000 in fees. Court costs aren't guaranteed to be awarded for the capriciousness of civil servants like police chiefs, and the police chief would certainly be more timely in his discretionary denial the following year. I would be several thousand dollars poorer, and again have no permit. I felt my time, energy and money would be better spent in changing the law. ( Which had happened a couple years before this current jury selection.) He pondered that a moment, smiled, and congratulated me for my successful legislative efforts. Then he asked me if that experience in any way affected my view of the police. I replied that no, the chief did exactly what I had expected him to do, and if anything the experience may have only clouded my view of district court judges. There was an audible snort of laughter behind me, a couple gasps among the pool, and the judge quit smiling. Shortly after, the counselors approached the bench and after a bit of whispering, the former chief and I were the first ones excused. |

One time I was empaneled and when a guy next to me answered a question, I recognized him immediately as an elementary school classmate. "Ben!" and he turned and have me a "Hey Nate!" The judge asked us both to stand and asked if we knew each other. after we confirmed it, he kicked us both right out |
