Anyone know the size of the pinion shaft nut to remove the gear? 15/16? Maybe?

Correct! Mine was a 15/16 nut at least. Don't forget to heat it up before you attempt to remove it since it comes with red loctite on it.
Also don't forget to install it with red loctite so it doesn't come off on ya later.
Good luck man

Gotcha, I luckily had a 15/16 wrench. Also came in handy to have taken a picture of my bike with the wrench still on it lol that’s how I knew, check it out https://www.instagram.com/p/BWSW6SzDDjk/

is it really necessary to heat it up before removing it? I have the Hammer Grindlock tool. It should only have 40 lbs or so on it from the factory.

haha those tools look pretty sturdy. I bet you could crack a bolt hole in the engine case before you break that tool!

If a nut has Red Loctite on it you REALLY want to take a propane torch to it.
During reassembly get everything perfectly clean and then one large drop should do it.

Make sure you use the pinion locking tool or you'll jack up the crank.

and as me and Mike found out, not all tubers have the same pinion gear. 00+ bikes have a different gear than pre-00 bikes, so there are two different tools and you need to make sure you get the right one.

The grindlock tools from Hammer are engraved 00 for ‘00 and up and 9199 for earlier models.
