Well, after almost 3 years of ownership and ~35k km of riding it was time to go, so last month my Ulysses found a new owner. Because i like my riding experience to be variate, and because i can only afford only one bike at a time, i usually switch bikes at ~3 years of ownership. Up to Uly, each bike that i owned, the riding experience was from enjoying the bike from the first days to being bored and thinking it was time to move to other bike at the end of ownership. Well, with the Ulysses it was something different: it was a love - hate relationship (more love then hate) from first day to last day. Hate, because i had some issues with this bike, love when it was running well - man, what a joy it was riding this bike. Also, this bike opened my appetite for adventure riding and to go and explore trail roads here in Romania (we have a lot), thus the bike that i am now riding is a 2009 KTM 690 Enduro. So, i would like to thank you all for helping me sorting the issues that i had with this bike and to wish you many joyful and trouble free miles with your bikes. The new bike certainly looks the business, enjoy it and stay away from gigantic puddles, I've found that they may have deep ditches in the center... |

Congratulations, I think there will come the day when you ask yourself why you got rid of the Uly. |

What's the piece on the bottom of the muffler? Obviously, it's a skid plate, but what are the details about it? Who made it, etc.? |

After 7 years I have a bit of an urge to try something different too. But just can't think of anything that could replace the Uly. |

@Steveford: thanks for the tip! I understand that you learned this by the hard way. @Ourdee: don't know if that day will come. Keep in mind that here (in Romania) Buell is considered a very exotic motorcycle that is also very hard to sell. So, if i didn't made this step now, chances were that the price that i would get for this bike would be very low. I learned this by the hard way with my previous bike (Aprilia RST 1000) witch was also exotic. After a few months after i decided to sell it, someone was willing to offer my 2100E (my lowest price was 2300E) and i refused him. After more than one year the bike was sold with 1800E... @1313: it is a homemade skid plate, it was my project from last winter. It's made from 3mm thick aluminium sheet, attached at the muffler by 7 bolts threaded in nuts that are basically welded at the muffler. I installed this skid plate aprox. 12 000km ago and i was happy with the results: the metal straps didn't break from the extra weight and it seems that this also was a fix for the rusty muffler. Some photos with the skid plate

@Smorris: the skid plate was made starting from a cardboard draft, the metal sheet was cut using a fret saw and bent using a manual bending machine. Because i had to do some minor adjustments of the final product, the dimensions of the draft are not 100% true. If you are interested of the exact dimensions, i can make a sketch with dimensions of the skid plate in the near future, because i promised to the guy who bought the Uly to help him with wheels removal for tire change, so i can make some measurements. |
