I've had the XB9R for a couple of months now and ever time the fuel light comes on there is seems to be alot more than the quoted 2.6 L (0.7 gal)left in the tank. I can ride for a further 30 km (20 mile) and the tank will not take more than 10 L (2.6 gal). Is there something wrong with the sensor or is it a case of the tank only really holding 10-12 litres. |

When I first got my 12R I ran out of gas, and topped it off with 3.4 gallons instead of the listed 3.7. I have 2.7 gallons before the light comes on, 0.7 in reserve. I also saw the 3.4 figure in one of the mag tests, and in a post or two here. Please don't ask me how many liters that is! I mean litres. |

Hey Steve, Did you have to do anything special to get it started again after running out? I'm curious because of the FI. My Dodge pick-up has to have the fuel line bled of air to get it going again. |

I've also run across the 3.4 gallong thing the only time I ran out of gas. Another time really, REALLY pushing the limits I put in 3.389 (on fumes at that point, I think!). I did not have to do anything special to get it started again. ...nor have I had to do anything special to get either of my trucks to start after running out of gas - '00 Dakota and '02 Ram. |

My light ALWAYS comes on with 1.1 gallons left in the tank, not the .7 gallons as billed. |

If I immediately stop for gas when the fuel light comes on - the fillup takes 2.5 gallons in my XB9S. I've put 3.0 gallons max and am not interested in running it dry... Prof |

As a note, if you stand the bike upright, then lean it slightly to the right when you first fill it up, you can hear airbubbles rising up through the tank and can usually squeeze a few more 10ths of a gallon in. Just don't lean back over to the sides when you top it or it will splash above the ring so cap it and go. |

The 9R Owner's Manual says Reserve is 1.51 L (0.7 gal). Fuel Capacity is 14 L (3.7 gal). Typically, you can get an additional 48 km (30 mi) after the light comes on (based on what I've experienced and what others report here). I rode on "reserve" for about 58 km (36 mi) two or three weeks ago and it took 13 L (3.42) gal to fill up. I hope that helps. Mike. |

Xbduck: No, nothing special to start it up again. It was sputtering and ready to die of thirst so I went ahead and hit the kill switch, don't know if that affected restart or not. |

I always get at least 110 miles from fill up to the light coming on. My fill up is usually 2.5 to 2.6 gallons. If I go about 20-25 miles with the light on and riding on the freeway then my fill up might approach 3.0 gallons. One of the reasons I purchased this bike was because I thought the capacity was 3.7 gallons with another .7 gallons after the light came on. That has not proven true so far...and I ride mostly 55-70 MPH unless in the twisties. |

It's 3.0 gallons with an addition .7 gallon reserve Matt. |

I should have known, another few years and I can put antique tags on my truck. It's an '88 model Dakota. The wife and I passed on new cages for motorcycles, a wise choice even if I do say so myself.
