OK, I swapped in a 55w ballast for my low beam. The 35w was fine for startup, but the 55w likes to douse as I'm starting the engine. What rating switch are people using to lift the ground on these lights, for when the engine is being cranked? I don't want to put something in that can't handle the power draw, but if I don't go LED sometime soon I'll have to add a switch to the light's ground... | ||

I wired in a time delay relay. The HID starts up about 20 seconds after the ignition is on. | ||

I have one that is adjustable for delay to switch on but immediately switches off. It is about two inches square and took about an hour to hook up when including the time to make the jumper wires. One hot, one ground, one trigger, one load. | ||

Here's the photo. I have a fused wire coming from the battery running to the '+12' terminal. A wire from 'L', load, that runs along the main harness up to the headlight unit. 'G' is ground, grounded to the tip-over-switch bracket, and 'Trig' is spliced onto the tail light wire. I could have easily put the relay under the front cowl, and someday might, but I started with it under the seat so that the relay would be more easily accessed while I was fiddling with the delay that I wanted.  | ||

Slick. I did find a spare SPST relay laying around. I'm just going to wire up a switch for now... |
