... but maybe this sounds familiar to someone. After a trip to Assen in June for the Dutch MotoGP where the battery was flat when we wanted to leave, the Ulysses has been standing still for a while until we could figure out what caused the charging problem. That turned out to be the voltage regulator. Swapped that out with one from a Firebolt wreck we have lying around for parts. Problem solved. Except, when I took it for a ride this evening, the lights were acting up. At really slow speeds, the lights come on intermittently, at higher speeds, not at all. And when the lights are OFF, the high beam indicator comes ON on the dash (without the high beam actually being engaged). Now, it had been doing this occasionally shortly after we rebuilt the Ulysses this spring (after the output shaft bearing was replaced), but not constantly like now. Of course, one wonders whether all of these things are related, and I'm really hoping it's not eating through another voltage regulator right now. Maybe this lights thing is a result of some wire getting crossed in the rebuild, but yeah, I figured maybe someone experience this before. It seems specific enough at least (with the high beam indicator coming on) to inquire about. Love to hear your thoughts. | ||

Wire loom where it jumps from the frame to the steering head is always suspect. Time for a beverage, and some wiggle-test on wires. | ||

This could also be a grounding problem. Sometimes, when a lamp illuminates when it should be dark it is because some other circuit is finding a ground through that lamp. | ||

The other way round as well? Uly lights should be always on. | ||

I would be suspecting that ground peg on the steering neck behind the headlights. Mine looked perfect. Opened the area up to get a better look and the ground wire fell off as I got to it. Had very similar symptoms. | ||

I just tried to move the handlebars from left to right without the engine running and it does the exact same thing. So it's probably either something with the wire loom or that grounding point you and Mark mentioned, Etennuly. Thanks for the help.
