I've heard so many different recommendations regarding primary gear oil for our sportster powered Buells. Everything from 20/50 motor oil to 75/90 gear oil to transmission fluid. I currently am running 20/50, cause Im poor and it's what I had. Im about to open it back up and am at a loss. If there's already a thread and I overlooked it I apologize. |

HD Spor-Trans, or Syn3. Both are safe for the windings in your stator as well as for your clutch. SporTrans is fairly cheap; I run Syn3 in everything because you can run it in the engine and in the primary - same bottle, easy to top off if needed, no mixups possible. Spend the money on decent fluids, and decent tires - otherwise you'll be out an expensive bike (and possibly medical bills). Don't skimp on maintenance or safety items - repairs are ALWAYS more expensive than maintenance!! |

Well I put 20/50 in it again. Advance auto brand. I replaced the original primary adjuster with the heavy duty replacement. The one 1 I replaced was shot. The metal plate was completely cracked on both sides of the bolt. 2 months ago it was cracked on only one side. Friction braking is rough on them. I just read the posts. Next time I'll try something different. (Message edited by Myclone2 on July 08, 2018) |

The replacement shoe should have a much thicker base. It won’t break again. |
