Cool, I'll have to save my pennies. Damn that list of goodies wanted keeps growing. By the way, got my reflective gold tape and pin-striping in today. Now I just need to settle on design. Once I have it finished I'll post non-reflective and reflective pic's. The tape color matches the gold coloring in the Buell Logo's pretty darn good. I might have to remove the Firebolt logo on the front. | ||

I have one and it works great BUT about 2 weeks ago I had it parked outside at work and it acted like a magnifying glass and melted a portion of my gage bezel. I had never herd of that happening until it happened to me then several people said they had herd of it happening. I like it enough that I'm still going to leave it on and figure out a way to "shade" the gages. | ||

The double bubble screen is cool looking, and supposedly protects from the wind well without looking obtrusive. But one caution: IF you get the sun shining from straight behind the bike, it can behave as a parabola and focus the light onto the dash panel and melt your dash. I've heard that some other sportbikes can have this happen THRU the windshield and onto the dash, but I don't think that is an issue on the bolt. It's not common, but at least one customer has had it occur. It takes a low sun on a clear hot day condition to for it to occur. I've not heard of this occurring with the stock or +3" profile ZG screens. We've almost always got the smoked ZG in all three profiles in stock, and can get any of them in several other colors, including amber or clear. Al | ||

Naw, but when I start mentioning things that I want, she tunes me out. Gotta love her though. just tell your dealer not to leave messages on your machine when your parts are in works with my wife at least until she gets on the back and says "hey is that new" I noticed a little wrinkle in the upper part of my dash panel and it never dawned on me it might be the windscreen I guess I'll stop leavin her out in the sun the clear part of the gauges has not discoloured at all and the screen has been on for a season and a half Ill post pictures in a different thread tomorrow  rippin up the prairies | ||

i have that exact screen works great but the "free" buell helmet still howls like a banshee in my ear behind it is that meltin thing with the tinted ones? ud think that would only be with the clear or brighter colored ones theres a similar warning on the packing edited by 420at145mph on May 18, 2004 | ||

It's not a possibility... It's a fact. I've got three different spots on my gage-pod that are melted. One is clear through. I thought about getting some good 3M tape in black to shade the bottom two thirds of the shield. I'm pretty sure that would keep it from happening. Just for the record, mine is the dark smoke tint. As far as functionality... I love it. | ||

Mine is also dark smoke tint. I was thinking of painting the inside of the lower portion with black primer. Do you think it would stick to it without pealing? | ||

Some manufacturers, such as Ermax, now carry a warning about instruments melting and include a 'clock protector' stick on with the screen. | ||

Do you think it would stick to it without pealing? No! Looks great until you wash it. I've been toying with black painted flames on my windscreen. A pressure washer removes the paint easily, quickly, and cleanly. My flames are currently backed with black vinyl. My next experiment is to bead-blast the anti-scratch coating off the inside of the windshield and try paint again. I'll know within the next week or so if it actually works. | ||

Chainsaw, I'm going to use a glass bead machine to rough it up. I figured primer would adhere better than paint. Is there anything that might stick to plastic better than your standard primer? I also figured that painting the inside would be safer because it wouldn't get rock chips and have to stand up to as much abuse as painting the outside. Maybe I'll wait and see how it works for you. | ||

I painted the inside also, I haven't tried primer. All my painting experience involves K-R-Y-L-O-N! The regular black and the Fusion for plastics. I'm hoping media blasting will help the paint adhere, but then again, I'm painting hack, and I have to resort to trial and error! | ||

Yeah, I put a double-bubble (smoke) on my xb12r and love it. It doesn't keep you out of the wind, but reduces buffeting at 75-80 mph greatly. I put mine on because I thought the gold screen looked tacky. I love the way the red bike looks with the smoke colored screen. As for the dash, I have to agree with the others here. I parked my bike on a sunny day and noticed a melted spot on the left side of the gauge bezel at the top. Personally, I think I had my helmet sitting on top of the airbox with the shield (clear) facing the instruments. My guess is light came through the helmet and burned the panel. I also suspected the curvature of the screen could have done it. Oh well, the screen is still worth it! Got mine from American Sport Bike. xbolt12 | ||

Check out the pics of the Hal's FX race XB. They use the ZeroG sport touring version. Probably the one I will get eventually as it seems like it would keep the wind off the shoulders better. Maybe the extra width and height of it will also balance out my goofy antennae ('04 mirrors)!! If you could find that re-stickable window sticker material in a big sheet and opaque, that might work to make a sun blocker for the instrument cluster. It might look cool if you get the material to match the bike's color. Right now, I have the stock windscreen but just in case I can't park it in the shade, I put my gloves over the instrument pod when I park it. What about the mylar sheets that sell at auto stores for shading windows. They come in variety of colors and are removable. |
