I just bought a 2006 xb12x Ulysses. I broke a clutch cable today and was wondering if there are any other parts I should go ahead and order to have on hand? It’ has about 12,000 miles on it. I was also wondering if there are any stock clutch parts that will improve the clutch pull weight on the 2006 xb12x? The clutch pull weight on my 06 Ulysses was way heavier than my 04 Firebolt. | ||

Your new cable should be lined with some type of plastic, so it is a bit smoother. I would replace the wire form cable bracket with the new updated one PN N0012.1AAA. It’s stouter, while the old one could crack and the cable could hit the exhaust and melt. | ||

The clutch pull should be basically the same between the two bikes, I wonder if something was wrong with your cable on the 06 that it was pulling harder. Like Motorfish said, the new cables are a lot nicer than the original cable, you might even want to get one for your Firebolt should you still have it. That said there are aftermarket things like a hydraulic clutch conversion that can help. | ||

Given that your cable broke the pull will likely be much better with the new cable. Did it break the end off at the clutch lever? It needs to be lubed there in the lever so that the cable end can pivot. If it gets corroded in place the cable has to bend every time the clutch lever is applied. I lube the cable and all of the engine Heim joints at every oil change. Check for the condition of the front engine isolator. When the rubber cracks too much you will get vibrations through the frame. | ||

I finally got the clutch cable I ordered and was able to install it last night. It lightened the pull a lot. The previous owner had not maintained it at all. Thanks so much to everyone for all the tips and advice! |
