Picked up a new to me 06 uly and after digging into it I see the chrome playing has peeled out of the headlight buckets. On my firebolt I used some neat aluminum oven tape and fixed the issue until the recall came. I'm not having any luck popping the uly light assembly apart. Anyone have a trick to getting these apart? If not, how about a functioning non expensive replacement? |

The later model headlights were better and still available I believe. |

That housing is glued together well enough that you would be better served buying a new assembly. I had to replace my housing due to the stainless bolt at the bottom locked to the brass insert in the plastic. The brass would just spin freely. Stainless seems to like to corrode into other metals sometimes. When I replaced the housing, I went with a threaded stud and a wingnut so I could adjust it without tools. |

I bought a couple spare complete units before they went obsolete. I think you can still get them. They are cheap. SPHD has some on e-Bay |

Managed to wrestle it open with the help of my heat gun. It'll work for now and I'll look for a better one as I work out the kinks the p.o. Left behind |

Cool! post some pics. I was afraid that mine would just pop apart into chunks. |

Nate, I didn't take any pics. I just committed to it was coming apart or I was destroying it. I put a tiny screwdriver on each of the 4 tabs and heated it up and then worked my 5th screwdriver around it to cut the silicone apart. I did my tape job on the buckets and then silicone it back together |

HA! I saw that and ASSUMED it was epoxy and didn't mess with it! A winner is you.

I was committed that it was coming apart, broken or not. There was NO plating left on the buckets, so I didn't really have anything to lose. |
