Why are carbon fiber body parts so popular and easy to find? Does nobody make fiberglass body parts that can be painted?

Yes, every body piece I know of is available in fiberglass.

Hotbodies has thinner 'race' stuff, but theres better and custom stuff too.

What are you looking for?

I've found a couple places overseas but nothing in the US. Looking for all the body parts for a 2006 XB12Ss. I have everything currently but would like to replace some and be able to paint them. I don't like the look of carbon fiber and apparently it's difficult to paint. I understand the benefits of carbon fiber but I don't race and I'm not particularly hard on my bike. Thanks

The prep for carbon fiber is similar to that of bare cured fiberglass resin. It can be done with excellent results.

It is rarely done. In most cases the owner of carbon fiber parts usually does not want to hide the extra expense they went to to have a lighter stronger part of the same shape. Nor do they want the weight added by paint and primers.

It would be kind of like making a ring of gold and plating it silver because you like the color better. But hey, if you can only get the right size and design ring in gold, but you want it silver, have at it!
