i just recently got a 2001 buell blast with 8700 miles on it and i want more hp out of it and was wondering if i got the 515cc or 600cc kit for it would i have to do anything to the bike to make it run with the upgrade in cc and hp. i already have a new exhaust and am putting a better intake on it soon but other then that could i just bolt on the new bigger block and ride or would that blow up the engine?

The 600 kit takes engine case machining, so complete disassembly is required.
There isn't anything you need to do to the engine except make sure it's not running too rich or too lean-not hard to accomplish unless you start spending major money on carburetors you don't need.
The Blast engine in stock form can tolerate a variety of upgrades.

PS most of the gains from the 515 kit comes from increased compression and a better combustion chamber fit. It's really only a .060 overbore. If you don't get a good price on the kit, just get a high comp piston.

save the money you would spend hopping up the motor and buy an xb or ktm single if you wanna go faster.

It does suck when one finds they've bought something that has limited upgrades available. Then with the law of diminishing returns one endures the sacrifices of power vs. pennies and value. You can soup this Blast up to your hearts content but it's so true that you be better served by just spending that same money on a pre-owned faster bike. That said I've fallen into the same trap. I can't tell you when I'll be finished installing everything but you'd need to have some wrenching experience

Limited upgrades is not exactly true, limited power certainly. But that is mostly due engine displacement and number of cyclinders. It all depends on money. You can do a 750cc Blast with full cams, fuel injection and an 8000 rpm limit. It won’t be cheap, but it’s all available. You just won’t find it all readily listed in the Dennis Kirk or J & P cycles catalog.

An XB factory top end, with stock factory parts bolts right on and is good for a serious power upgrade and 7500 rpm limit.

But it is a labor of love when an XB9 or XB12can still be had pretty cheap.

I am getting 85lbs now with my P3 at 22,500 miles of hard driving. What would I get with new rings and an XB head?

Normal Blast is 120-140psi.

What state are you in?

How about with just the cylinder and piston upgrade...I'm beginning to think twice on the XB head swap.

I do think one day if I do a good enough job reassembling with the Blast head and 515 Kit I'll try the 600 kit with a donor bottom end

That’s good. You can also just get an overbore CP. 10.5 piston and rings and have the cylinder bored locally. Depends on cost. If the 515 is on sale, that’s a cheaper way to go.

The stock XB head really is way above the blast head performance wise.
