06 Uly just turned 40,000 miles. Check engine light started coming on when riding at higher speeds on the interstate. Everything that I have read points to O2
sensor. Does that sound reasonable?
Is an O2 sensor an easy swap? Requires an engine rotation and/or special tools?

TIA
Frank

You have to read the codes.
You will be buy random parts otherwise.

Yes, check codes...but that was the symptom that lead to my 06 needing a new O2 sensor at 40k.

I also had a ecm failure 10k later though, that gave similiar problems, so keep your mind open.

The symptoms of my ECM failure were running issues such as bucking and stalling when hot. I’m now getting a CEL sometimes with an O2 code and might need to replace that soon

Checked the code this morning. O2 sensor.
Manual says remove shock and fan. Any advice/tips
to help make this task go easier?

My advice is to wire in a 4 wire o2 sensor. My bike runs so good after putting one in. All of the surging etc is gone and the sensors seem to last longer.

When replacing the sensor put something under the exhaust to support the bike for when you remove the shock. Once all the wiring is done and plugged in double check the rear cylinder temp sensor wire to help ensure its not rubbing on anything. It's not a fun job by any means so do your best to make sure it doesn't need to come apart in the near future.

Don't use a Bosch, they suck mightily.
Hang the rear frame up from a rafter so the whole mess doesn't topple over.
Good time to add another inch to the fan wiring, too.

There's not much to it. One wire is ground, one is constant power, one is switched power and one is signal. When you get there sensor I believe the directions are in the box. This is the sensor I bought: Bosch 15729 Oxygen Sensor, Universal Type Fitment https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BZL080?ref=yo_pop_ma _swf

Maybe that Bosch will hold up better than the one on this list:
-GM OEM= 25162693
-NTK= 21002
-Airtex= 553071
-Bosch= 12014
-Denso= 234-1001
-Walker= 250-21001
-SNG= SN1-15
Union Sangyo[OEM Toyota Mfg]#C-170.
Bosch - 12014 - 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood
GM delco GM part #25162693
GM OEM= 8990469 superseded to 25162693
NTK= 21002
Airtex= 553071
Bosch= 12014
Denso= 234-1001
Walker= 250-21001
SNG= SN1-15

I ended up with an NTK 21002, so far so good.

Looks like that is a single wire, I never had good luck with the single wire o2 sensor. Every morning when I'd leave the driveway the bike would give a cough right as I was turning, total power loss for a split second.

After adding the heated ( about 15,000 miles ago) the bike doesn't cough when cold and the the bike doesn't buck around in traffic at low rpm.

Here's a quick video showing how fast the o2 goes into closed loop at idle. https://youtu.be/klVhgJceUNE

Got the O2 sensor replaced. While pieces were off the bike I put in new spark plugs. Engine was surprisingly
clean.
I went on a 100 mile ride on the interstate today...no check engine light.

What will be next: stator, VR, fuel pump? All of these
items are original items on the Uly.
