I had one S2 that got 60 but the other 7 running Buells I've had averaged 50.

yeah, i'm sure i could squeak 60mpg out of it on a long trip. every day i hear those 600cc jap sport bikes go past and you know that they must be gas guzzlers. at 75mph they're turning about 9 grand. that's gotta wear out the engine sooner too.

I had a 97 m2 that I bought new. Made two round trips to Denver from Phoenix and I averaged 67mpg both trips! I know I found it hard to believe! It would also out run any Buell I have had since. It was one of a kind. Too bad I destroyed it with only 18 thousand miles. Don't ask.

Geez, it's been a while since I checked but i don't remember getting anywhere near that mileage on my S1. I *think* it takes me about 2.5 gallons to get 95-100 miles between fill ups. I'll have it check again when I pull the bike out again in spring.

Yeah I think if I get 45mpg I’m lucky. 55mpg on the Blast.

I got 50 consistently with the SU carburetor, but the Mikuni only gives me 42. Doesn't spray my leg with fuel, though.

I've been getting 45 mpg around town and I'm rebuilding the carb and the seals around it to try and lean it out a bit because I'm thinking I'm too rich.

I thought buells are for fun and to get you everywhere with a big grin ,not for riding like a grandpa!?

I don't really care how much gallon it takes a mile ,just fill it up when the reserve light gets on and go.
(and keep an eye on the oil level)

monitoring your mpg can alert you to a problem with your bike. even low tire pressure.

too rich can "wash" the oil film on your piston walls wearing your bore and rings. i found this:

A rich mixture will foul spark plugs, reducing mileage even more and exaggerating the effect on the converter as more unburned fuel enters it.
A rich mixture causes carbon build-up in the cylinder, reducing the life of the piston rings and possibly causing them to stick.
While a rich mixture does lower combustion temperature, a rich mixture will wash oil from the cylinder walls, reducing lubrication and causing the oil that is washed off to be consumed.

"I thought buells are for fun and to get you everywhere with a big grin ,not for riding like a grandpa!?"

I agree with that statement, but like to know what all my vehicles get for mileage.I definitely don't ride like a grandpa even though I'm old enough to be one.

I believe it is the Buell heads. My S2 with stock Harley motor has less power and worse fuel economy.

1998 S3 with K&N air filter and race exhaust. Jetted for 5000ft. 58 MPG at 65-70MPH. 60 MPG at 55MPH.

1997 S3 trike with K&N air filter and Vance & Hines muffler. Jetted for 5000ft. 57 MPG at 65-70MPH.

1989 RS1200, a 4 speed, with K&N air filter and stock exhaust. Jetted for 5000ft. 54 MPG at 65-70MPH.

1995 S2 with K&N air filter and stock exhaust. Jetted for 5000ft. 55 MPG at 65-70MPH.

Jetting is 195 main jet and 45 slow jet. Great for 5000ft but way too lean at sea level.

Had a tail wind in the desert once and both S3s produced 68MPG.

Conversely, I once headed west out of northern Texas on route 40. bucking a constant heavy wind.
I think I got 30 MPG.

Of course, I wasn't actually following the speed limit either.

I average 45 MPG on my 2000 X1 with stock ECU tuned by FiremanJim. Averaged about 46 with the race map but there were some rich and lean spots. After dyno tune averages 44-45 but power curve is totally flat.

My mileage is usually bad, runs about 42 mpg. I pretty much keep it under 85, excepting for this one little stretch of highway.
