After i had no luck when trying to adapt the Dorman 911-912 intake manifold controller to my '09 Ulysses (it is not making the open and close cycle with kill switch on, throttle fully open and key on) i am searching on ebay for a replacement exhaust actuator, and found one with the part number S0138 1AA that is removed from a 2004 XB12R (https://www.ebay.com/itm/ACTUATOR-EXHAUST-Exhaust- Control-EXUP-Buell-XB-9-XB-12-S/273028261726?hash= item3f91c0a75e:g:AIMAAOSwokJaXe6v&vxp=mtr). The part number from the actuator from my bike is S0138.2AAA . Comparing these two parts, i notice that apart from the cable bracket difference, the connector is rotated by 180 degrees (the locking tabs from S0138.2AAA are on top and on the actuator that i found on ebay the locking tabs are at the bottom).
So my question is, are all of the actuators interchangeable on the XB bikes?

That’s just a earlier version. I talked with the company that made the for Buell and the tested the Dorman unit from a ford and it had all the same internal and outside body. The only difference was the cable cam and mount.

Here is a picture with Dorman unit next to the Buell S0138.2AAA (left is Dorman, right is Buell). I have 0 experience at electronics, but to me, the circuit boards do not look the same. Someone on the other forum (buellxb forum) made the description with pictures of how to adapt the Dorman unit to a Buell bike. The pictures are no longer visible, but i am very curious if my Dorman unit has the same internals as the one he adapted

When I talked to the company that reworked them for HD they claim that the Dorman tested the same as the continental one that they used before. The only reason they didn’t go ahead with them is HD would had to re-epa test them for compliance. All that company did was by the ford ones from continental, cut off the arm and weld on the new arm.

Looks like the Dorman unit is a little more durable.

That was me who posted the details on buellxb.

I fixed the broken links so you can one again see the pics.

https://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?52942 -Disabled-exhaust-valve-actuator

The main reason the Dorman is better is the large gear at the bottom right of your pic. Notice that the gear is the full height of the case and that the gear that drives it has full contact. The gear in your pic on the right shows this gear being only half the height as it needs to clear the circuit board. These strip or deform very easily.

Let me know if you have any more questions on the adaptation. Works great and isn't that big a deal to do.

Thank you!
Well, i'm starting to think that maybe the Dorman unit that i bought is faulty. It simply does nothing when i use the combination of kill switch on, throttle fully open and key on. I do not know another way to test the Dorman actuator.

Use the exhaust valve actuator test function in ECMDroid or ECMSpy.

If you have a race ECM installed for an aftermarket slip-on exhaust the ECM my not be sending out a signal for the actuator.

Maybe i wasn't to clear: the stock actuator of my Ulysses is still working (it is making the open and close cycle) but as you can see in the picture above the black plastic wheel and the gear that it sits in are not in a good shape.

This is all very good info.
My 2008's servo doesn't do the test.
I will swap over the stock ECU to see if it does anything.
Perhaps it's not broke afterall?

I found in my early testing that I could not always get the actuator to cycle using various combinations of kill and key switch operations. Wasn't consistent enough to base any decisions on. I didn't bother sorting it out. . . I bought a $80 Android tablet and a Buelltooth.
