Hello I am new to this but I am having problems with my buell blast. while riding it will backfire(loud pop) and want to shut down. Also my gauge is not regulating speed and at the millage is flickering in and out. I have checked all the wires to see if anything has come unplugged but didn't find anything. I also checked all the grounds. If someone could please help it would be appreciated. |

Did the gauge behavior occur at the same time as the backfire/shutdown? |

No these happened at different times the speed doesn't regulate and the millage flickers in and out With this happening it seems to me it could be an electrical problem. Could the back fire be the carb and the flicker be the speed sensor? |

What you describe is almost certainly an electrical problem, possibly the battery.
The backfire is likely due to a moment of no spark, then the gas combusting in the muffler after things kick back in. The speedometer requires power to work (it isn't just a cable like an old car), and the odometer flickering would be the giveaway that you are not getting enough power.
I'd start with getting the battery tested, if it is old, it may be worth just getting it replaced. |

There is a sensor for the speedometer that attaches to the top of the transmission. Remove the sensor and clean it with some solvent and re-install. Check the wires from the sensor and make sure there is no damage. A parts manual would be helpful in locating the sensor. |

well it starts hooked up to a battery charger and idles fine so it has power to start. but if the batter is low could that cause a backfire? |

the battery wont hold a charge it stays at 9.6 volts |

could it be an ignition module as it like shuts down and turns back on causing the backfire? |

The bike needs power to run the ignition module like you said, if your battery is dead you have no or intermittent ignition. Throw a new battery on and enjoy  |

The Cause was the top of the plug was stuck in the spark plug wire causing the backfire and the new batter helped The gauge! Thank you guys. |
