My OEM ECM cracked at 7k, so I replaced with an EBR Race ECM and relocated it so it doesn't get smushed. Now I have 27k on the bike without a single problem since the ECM.

When I had the seat off the other day I noticed the race ECM has that faint crack at the gray connector. The seat doesn't make contact with the ECM or the connector, so I'm wondering if the vibes have caused this? The bike runs great so I'm assuming all the solder inside is still intact.

My question is, has anybody had a race ECM fail on them?

On a side note, we relocated the ECM on my dad's Uly at 2k miles, but the thing still crapped out at 8k. So it leads me to think that the seat crushing the ECM may only be part of the problem. Maybe these things get rattled so much that the solder inside cracks?

All the ECMs come from the same supplier. OEM and race are the same body and internals.

Where the crack is give it a bead of RTV silicon sealer. Will keep dust and moisture out and absorb some vibration.

My original is still in place with two seat blocks and I sealed it when crack appeared. 64,000 miles so far.

Yes, I cracked a RACE ECM. Seat may look like it does not touch connectors, But, when warmed up it will travel further.

If cracked during the 2,000 miles, vibrations over the next 6,000 miles could have finished it off.

I tried relocation and couldn't reliably make it fit. I ended up putting a wooden block on top of it and warping the seat. One of the fracking worst piss poor designs ever devised, bit I digress because I do understand that any sort of disparaging remarks against the church of eric can start a jihad.

Then of course there are the all too common other electrical gremlins in the Uly wiring harness. Nothing like good ole american sportbike quality.

I agree with the piss-poor design of the ECU. There is nothing at all supporting those two connectors but brittle lead-free solder.
That having been said, if wiggling the connector makes the bike run funny, you should be fixable by reflowing the solder.

I tried that when mine went south but my issues were internal. (acted like the timing was wrong)

And yes the 2008 bikes don't have enough slack to get the ECU in any nicer place.

And yes, my bike seems to have an aversion to having ground wires.

Aaaand that's Erik with a K.

Well the race ECM has lasted over 20k so far, but the last thing I need is for it to crap out on me on a long trip. I think I'm going to gorilla glue a flat piece of metal across the top of the ECM and the gray connector. They are flush so I'm hoping that will add strength where the crack is.

Someone needs to come up with a plug-in extension so we can fit these things in the underseat compartment aft of the battery.
