Here we are again guys, my Buell won't crank. I replaced the battery it's on a trickle charger. Everything powers up fine, checked all the fuses, everything okay, all fuses fine. I don't want to mess with it any more, domn't want to risk messing things up. I put it all back together, going to take it to Harley for them to fix. The ignition relay just clicks when the starter button is pressed. Does ant one have any idea, without me disassembling and risking messing up my 1125CR? |

Try, with ignition on, using a large flat blade screw diver to short across the starter solenoid. This will give clue as to where look next. |

Check that the headlites come on when key switch is on. Headlites get 12V through the start relay. It's applied through a fuse to the common terminal. The start relay is normally deenergized. Headlites are connected to the normally closed terminal. When you press the start switch it energizes the start relay which disconnects the headlites and puts 12V to the starter solenoid to close it. So, when you push the start switch the headlites should go off. If they don't there's a good chance the start relay is failed. You can swap out the start relay with the aux relay, they're identical. That relay is a genuine H-D part, made in Italy, $5 plus tax. |

Aux relay, that's good to know. I'll probably have to pull the seat again to get to it, but that is good to know. I'd like to know before putting the bike on a trailer and taking it to Harley. Saving me the expense of renting a trailer and paying 106 Dollars an hour for diagnostics. |

So I am to assume, if I bridge the solenoid and it fire up, I need relay? I'm very leery of messing anything up. Bad enough I have to unfasten the brake cylinder to get to it. |

You can get to the start solenoid by going through where seat removal provides access. It will likely arc the screwdriver a little when you use it to short across the big terminals. I isolated a failed start relay on my bike that way. It's key to observe if headlites go off when pushing the start switch. Popping the relay box open can be a PITA. You need to have back seat off and fiddle with it. |

Thanks for the advise, will try it in the morning when it warms up. I printed out the relay arrangement a fuse box schematic from the manual, hoping to zero in on whether the relay or solenoid is the issue. I'm thinking the relay, but we'll see if the headlights go out when I hit the start switch. |
