I just bought a 2007 XB12X with 70k on it. Drove it home from Tampa to Tennessee in mid 50's to mid 30's, knowing it would be cold. I would like to lower the seat some, to sit more into the bike (I'm 6'1" so no problems there), perhaps sweep the bars back a little and raise them some, and raise the windscreen about ten inches more. I have a 34 year old Wing and an old R100RT beemer for comfort traveling, but love the Buell for it's qualities which I'm sure I don't have to tell ya'll about! So, my question(s) are: Is the XT that much different, or will making the mods I mentioned be suitable? Or should I just get an XT? Any help would be appreciated, just got into this and wish I had when they were in business! Thanks

Forgot to mention: High beam is aimed almost straight at the front fender and I'm not sure how to adjust it by looking at it. Heard there is a way to have both lights on at once??

Need pictures. One from side to see which seat is on it, and from front and sides of headlight to see if it is broken.

I just sold my Aspencade this summer, and still have my R100RT. I thought I'd want more fairing, but have been happy with the tall wind screen (Buell option).
The stock seat, peg, handle bar relationship is the same with an XT, but the XT has shorter suspension. The XT has some other differences, as it stared production in '08, and there were big changes that year (also big changes with the '08 and newer X models).
If you have a stock '07 seat, there are optional lower, and higher seats.
There were a few aftermarket bar risers (rox riser and others), but a lot of aftermarket has gone away.
After spending some time with your X, you will have a better idea if the XT is better for you.
The adj screw, for the headlight (up and down) is under the beak/fender. The side to side are the holes just ahead and above the turn signal stalks. These three screws are Torx head. You might need to loosen the side to side screws, to make a big change in the up/down.

I've left my headlight (high/low) stock, as I don't ride a lot at night. You can search the Bad Web archives for - both lights on high beam. There are several ways to make that happen, but it seems like it caused other problems, in some cases.

Here's the pics of the seat currently on the bike. ALSO, any suggestions for FORK SEALS, which brand is best?

Your inseam is more important than height when it comes to choosing the X over the XT. Your torso is more important when choosing a windshield.

If you need more air protection research Memphis shades here as a lot of wind is coming under the windshield. If you ride in the rain you can see it going right up in your face from below.

Also an adjustable windshield is nice. I have a Madstad and all the way down and back allows the wind noise to be fairly quiet yet all the way up and out gives the best pocket in the rain or cold weather.

If you want a little more legroom then they also make 1" lowered pegs.

It looks like you already have a low seat. From what others have said, the 06 low seat is a little different but I don't know if it's better or not.

There is an easy way to put both headlights on by just switching a wire in the connector but then one light is on a different fuse and won't go out when you start the bike but this usually isn't a problem unless your battery is on the way out. The other way requires you to solder a wire across two connectors in the left switch housing. Details of this are also here on BadWeb. This is the better way, just takes more time.

Thanks for the info! I'll check the screens you mentioned. Could you tell me who makes the lowered pegs? Thanks again!

That seat you have is the stock 2007+ seat, which is a low seat. There is a (now discontinued) low seat that Buell started offering in 2006 (hence called the 06 low seat), which is slightly lower than what you have now.

The biggest difference with the XT is the lower suspension, which will bolt right onto your 2007 X (only need the forks, rear shock, and kickstand) should you desire lowering yours.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I'll look into everything. Regarding the lower foot pegs, is there a way to lower or adjust the brake and shifter to accomodate the lower position?

The '06 low seat was offered as an accessory. Same seat pan low flat center rider area. Gel filled thinner pad. I retained the original seat on my '06 and like it best. The low accessory seat traps you into position fore and aft and getting down that much lower means wider. Spreading legs over 8"+ on the low vs 6" or so on the stock high seat.

I found that during spirited cornering transitioning left to right across was easier on the tall seat.

Tall seat comfort better on long trips, gel tended to feel hard after the first hundred miles or so.

You can cheat the headlight switch to try it out. It will stay in a middle position if you push it there carefully. I did so for about six months before I rewired it.

I rode an XT for two seasons - In addition to what has already been mentioned (lowered front and rear suspension), the XT also had heated grips, tall windshield and a traditional XB style front fender. I'd have to check to confirm if the first year XT had the heated grips.
On an X that I bought later, I swapped the suspension to the lower XT suspension and added heated grips - very pleased.

I rode an XT for 42,000 miles. First year XT had heated grips. It is still the best bike I ever owned.
