I bought my motorcycles as an investment in my sanity. It has paid off way better than I would have thought. I could however sell my 2009 XB12R for more than I have invested in it (according to the Craigslist and ebay prices), but I feel it would cheapen my sanity investment, so I will ride it for several more years. I have spent more than 3 times what my sportster is worth for upgrades and such and never expect to get that out of it. It just makes it nicer for me. The SO bought her 1975 FJ40 for $4500 almost 20 years ago and the price of them has done nothing but go up (with a few fluctuations). As it sits now it is worth about $20k. $25k to the right person because of some of the updates we have done to it (disc brakes all the way around, plus other options). That is actually twice what it sold for new. Pristine examples are selling for $45k and more. Again, we did not buy it for an investment so I am not worried about the resell value, but it is nice to know it's there. |

It was worth a try. I haven't had 2700 bucks since I brought DDB 2 home anyway. Besides, if I did buy another bike, I would probably also need to get a tarp big enough to cover all 3, and sleep in the middle of the teepee because I doubt Id be sleeping in the house anymore. |

Mnscrounger: When I bought the XB12R last year, the SO made some comments about how nice the dog house would fit my sleeping bag. She also made sure to "remind" me that she can't fit on the back of either of my Buell's so the Sportster rebuild needed to be moved up the priority list. |

Did some one call the old farts out of hiding. Just because we are not around much these days, does not mean we are not around. Court showing his famed NYC hospitality, note short hair.
Some of the old boys from a few years ago circa 2002.
Good times and great people. |

""remind" me that she can't fit on the back of either of my Buell's" Airbozo: Can't and won't are two different things. My wife claims the S3 is comfy, but wants me to buy something with chrome and fringe for two up cruising,(ugh)! If she tried to tell me she wouldn't fit on the back, I WOULD remind her about the all day ride she took with a coworker on Fatboy, with a gunfighter and lady seat. (After she got home I could have told her I was sleeping with her sister and I'm sure her only response would have been "how was she?") I would RESIST the urge to suggest that if the seat is not too small, perhaps she is insecure about her backside being too big. (Neither is true, but I get defensive and speak hasty words when my Buell is criticized.) I think that she intends for me to sell one of the two we/(I) own, but given my weakness for buying orphaned brands, I am convinced an Excelsior Henderson would be perfect for her to farkle into a pinwheeled parade float for pirates, since it would sit under a blanket most of the time. I am hesitant to admit, but I do still have from my formative riding years, (before I understood the true purpose of "gear"), a half helmet and ....chaps... but they haven't been used in years, except for special occasions. We took a bucket list trip to Sturgis a couple years ago. We rode with a buddy on a Road King, and another couple on a Heritage Classic. Their bikes were beautiful, and 3-5 times the value of my S3, but guess who got all the waves from the riders there. Lots of people shouted "Awesome you don't see those anymore",or "I've got a Buell at home", or "I used to own one of those, great bike." Buells and the Badweb community may not get much love, but they do get respect. |

Die? Die my ass. Hell . . .we have even TRIED to die and failed miserably. Do not . . . . for a moment . . . think that the lack of daily presence can be interpreted as Elves "dying" or "being dead". Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Elves. Besides . . . if we died . . . a lot of us would miss the mega "Elf-Fest 2018 . . . The Reunion" Die? . . .hahahahaha |

Man seeing those pics of the Elves at Aarons place in CO sure makes me want to see that happen one more time. Anybody have a RR1200 they would lend for us to take it to Bonneville to set the production 1350 record with? I would volunteer to take care of all the prep work What is this mega Elf Fest 2018 that Court is talking about? When and where? |

Ah...09 Homecoming. That was right before some guy scribbled all over my S2's leg fairing...
I'll dig when I get home. Got lots of fun pics from those days. But...not sure how I feel about being an "old fart".... (Message edited by ratbuell on November 28, 2017) |

Nothing like being told "4 to 6 months" to help you sort out the way you spend your days . . . . The people here have changed my life and I have the most amazing collection of memories any person could have. Badweb is likely a lot healthier than the public facing image may convey . . . By the way . . . my "4 to 6 months" was, about 2 months later, rescinded after many, many, many tests and lots of time with some of the top folks at NYU who eventually decided "you'll die with it . . not of it". But . . . by then. . . I'd seen a light. Wish I had years early . . but no regrets . . . no apologies. Badweb and I are BOTH healthy as can be. |

Court - I had a similar "it's time" experience, as you know. Right after HC'08, actually... Bad enough to go through it in the first place. But, when I returned to the surgeon for the 5 year anniversary to say "thank you!" he literally fell into his chair when I walked in. His poor nurse at the time, who hadn't been there for my ordeal but was thumbing through my file to see who was making her boss fall over, was more than a little confused. Kinda a "this file...doesn't match...that person..." situation. I had to explain to her that I'm just too stupid to give up, and her boss did a hell of a job with the initial repairs! He told me right to my face that day "we figured you were going to leave in a bag, but since we're a teaching hospital we pieced you back together as an exercise"...well...it's an eye-opener. Somehow, the little shit...well, there's not nearly as much in life worth getting torqued up about, as people think. Everybody should die at least once in their life - we'd all be a lot happier, and a lot more polite and respectful. (Message edited by ratbuell on November 28, 2017) |

Court and Rat I too had this moment in 09. I walked into an ER at the hospital I had previously had back surgery at around 2 am. They put me in a room and I stayed there till 5 am. When my surgeon checked his patient logs at arrival at 5 am he seen my name. By the time he got to my room they could not wake me he looked at my wife and said you may want to hold his hand he will most likely never come out of surgery alive. All my spinal fluid had drained onto the bed and I had a very severe infection of bacterial meningitis that invaded every portion of my body. I woke 16 days later in ICU. Was in the infectious quarantine for 30 more days. Was told I would never walk again. Here I am Fyi First thing I did was buy my Buell !!! |

I'm enjoying all of the old pictures and 'old' guys chiming in too... Those pics and stories are what got me started with Buells 16 years ago (as a freshman in engineering school) and eventually riding my M2 across the continent with the support of this group. I don't get to ride much these days, tough year for our family and chasing after Weston, being a good hubby and cranking out an MBA keep me quite busy. I do have my eye on an R1200GS, think it's in poor taste to put Buell decals on that? Thanks for the memories and changing my life! |

Kudos to all!! Bought a uly the first month of production, The next year picked up an x1 to tinker with. More recently jumped in and purchased an sx as the low prices preceded my target of purchasing one next year. Posted a few times in mid to late 2000s. But have poured over and searched here on many many occasions. Buells and EBRs are rich in heritage and not some unknown device delivered to the masses. I suppose if we 'know' the engineers behind certain bikes we usually lean in that direction, yet... I also have a '99/'00/'01/'04 Aprilia Mille/Falco, built from parts. And I must say that Aprilia was/is awesome with posting technical manuals free to download. Was contemplating an rsv4 vs. xbrr or sx. The 1190 is beautifully insane. Twelve years later and the uly still looks great and runs like a banshee. Thousands of miles of regional two up this year. OEM race ecu and exhaust installed after first year. The infamous (first year) fan crapped out this last summer. Some mods on electrical reroute and ecu relocation according to most buellers. Never stranded me and starts every time. The x1 was stock + race ecm and Vance-Hines. Whoever had it before tortured it. Heck, at the dealership it flooded when they tried to start it for me so plugs were replaced and off I went on a frigid February day. Initial problem was bearing brinneling most likely from priors pounding wheelies. Over the years ripped off anything covering the engine. Quasi sold the bike once, but failure to make payments (from a buddy) and post wreck (his) she was a slightly twisted scraped mess back in my garage. Took my time to fix her up, euro bars, front rotor, twin motorcycles shock, rewelded shifter, grounds, etc. The beauty of these tubers is also the use of auto electronics/parts. Nowadays it's just shear pleasure to ride - there's something about that first fuel injection model. Anyone who has tinkered and wrenched buells or aprilias should be able to easily handle an ebr. And the ebr is like an xb/aprilia blend. So to all who have contributed knowledge and time to this site, you have my greatest appreciation. I have been spared countless hours of troubleshooting by being able to go straight to certain problems and heed others. Cheers!! |
