What's the function? If it's to help cool the engine, I would think that taking out this piece will expose the engine to the air more effectively. Anyone remove this piece. If so, any negative effect? |

My guess is to help rout the air where it needs to go. I had the same feeling about the tins in one of my VW bugs. Took the tins off and the engine ran way hot. It may expose the engine more with less effective air flow. I'd leave it alone. Take this for what it's worth as I've been known to be wrong once (ok maybe more than once). |

what side are we talking about ? the title says right side ..but sounds like talkin about left side. The left sid is there to cool the rear head/jug ...at least that is what I gathered .. edited by spyder12s on May 10, 2004 |

Both sides cool the rear jug AND make the bike more aerodynamic. |

Absolutely this scoop helps cool the motor. If you remove it, the motor will run hotter. |

Right side engine shroud, not the scoop on the left side for intake. I've looked at it from the front and it seems there's hardly any opening at the front to cause air to flow through the gap. Oh well, thanks for the info guys. I'll leave it alone. I was wondering if putting a bigger shroud like the one on the left side will help the engine run cooler and keep the fan OFF. The heat coming off the sides when the fan runs is pretty unbearable at a stop (traffic jam, which is frequent here in DC) when the temperature is 90+ degrees. |

The scoop on the left is "mostly" for cooling the rear cyl. from what I have heard. |

>>>Absolutely this scoop helps cool the motor. If you remove it, the motor will run hotter. Accurate statement. In fact, a group of folks placed themselves at grave risk while filming wind tufts (okay....someone's Aunt had to forego knitting for a day) from the open door or a Dodge minivan. Others have sacrificed to allow you to enjoy your Buell....GO RIDE THE MOTORCYCLE. |

the reason they put the r/s scoop on is so we can remove it and replace it with more carbon fiber |
