Hi, I accepted a job up at Red Cliff (north of Ashland Wisconsin)... I suspect most of you will not be seeing too much of me this summer, but are always welcome and have a place to stay if you come up to the area. Tried sending an e-mail to some of you, but this computer sucks!!! I start work as Environmental Programs Manager on June 1st. I will try to make it to Appleton on the 15th and keep in touch! Excellent choice of areas. Some of the most scenic areas in the world(On a much smaller scale of course) The coast(Just don't get in the water), the mountains, no traffic, great fishing. Soon as things sort out at home I am going to do Keewana in the UP. |

Charlotte, If you ever get the chance take the road north out of silver bay, I think it's highway 1. It goes up through Ely and Tower. Most awesome road. Lots and lots of curves. Also the iron ore mine in Tower is well worth a stop and tour. g u s m y s t e r |

Also the road going out to Black River Harbor from Bessemer. No traffic, curves, hills, tree canopy, lots of cool scenery. Then on the way back take the road from the airport north of Ironwood out to Little Girls Point over the Montreal River back up to Saxon on US2. This is the best place in the WORLD to live!!! Its my favorite place on earth. Char, is it a paying job? |

Every time I see the title to this thread I think of the Sci-Fi channel, remember where you're located, then the movie, "The Thing" pops in my head. Outer Limits + Snow + Cold as H3ll = The Thing (Think my pain meds kicked in, might be getting loopy). |

OK, I just got back to Madison... Ashland, Washburn, Bayfield and Red Cliff are totally AWESOME!!! Chris, I spotted a very cute Coast Guard employee !!! I got goose bumps driving to the tribal office it is sooooo pretty... And I found a place in Washburn, 15 minutes from the office with a garage for the bike and three neighbors that ride also... Ya, I get paid on June 1st if I start on May 21st, and I should move up next Tuesday... By mid September I should have enough vacation time to ride around Lake Superior for a week or so... Hee hee, lucky me!!! Charlotte |

So, I have tomorrow to pack and then Tuesday I am making the five hour drive north (again)... Wednesday I will make another four hour (two hours out and two hours back) drive to pick up stuff near Pelican Lake... not sure how much 'stuff' you can cram into a small Saturn, but I am sure I am going to find out... I also need to change the oil on the car. My furniture and motorcycle will have to follow me up there in the next week or two (somehow, someway... fortunately it is summer and I have a lot of freinds from Madison who are going to visit soon)... Another fortunate thing are the friends paying my rent and bike payment for me... trying to find even a low end service temporary job in Madison at the end of the semester has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack... (((doesn't help that I loaned another friend a lump of cash recently either... d'oh))) I did however ride my friends GS 1100 (BMW) today for four hours... looped from Verona to Spring Green, then Sauk Prarie, Pine Bluff and back... I really really really like that bike a lot... no wonder the guy is going to Labrador on it, I would too, very comfy very smooth ride... Anyhow, I am sure I will disappear for a few weeks... my e-mail is not working from here (Madison home I am staying at), I own no computer and I am not going to be able to e-mail personal stuff from work at all... since I will be on 'probation' or whatever for three months. I may check my e-mails once a week from the library... Oh well... I am sure there will be plenty of cool and fun stuff to keep me busy, including getting out on the Buell and exploring the Bayfield Penninsula. Cheers! Charlotte

REPORT FROM RED CLIFF USA Well, My new job is going pretty well. I am a lot less overwhelmed today than I have been most of this week (waking up a few times during the night and at 530 am thinking of everything I have to do...). I can't believe two weeks has passed already. But, it is absolutely fantastic up here. Lake Superior is very very gorgeous, even when it is misty and cold and raining out. Yesterday one of the Tribal Elders took me up to Point Detour (the northernmost point within the boundaries of the state of Wisconsin and within the reservation) and we stood on one of the cliffs overlooking the Apostle Islands. Knocked my socks off to be standing up there. Some friends are coming up from Madison tonight with the M2L, so I am really hoping to get some serious riding and exploration time in... Sunday night and Monday day will be moving furniture with another friend from Madison. People have been very friendly and helpful both at the Tribe and within Bayfield and Ashland area. Really looking forward to a few days off though... been sorting through and organizing masses of paperwork and computer files. Keep you guys posted. Charlotte |

I keep getting archived... hmmmmmmm... The darn belt on my M2L broke, or I would have had it deliverd on Saturday morning. 12K miles and now I have to buy a $175 belt. What the heck is up with that. If I am lucky I will get the bike on June 11th, since the belt will take a week to arrive in Madison and then I have to get friends to install it for me. Grumping me out man... over two weeks since I have gone for a ride...
