I haven't started my 2000 X1 Lightning in over 6 months. Last time it stared right up, I rode around, all was good. The tank was empty, and now no Fuel pump prime buzz, and no start up. It will start with Starting fluid, but shuts right off. Seems like a fuel delivery problem, but Im not too familiar with Buells.Does this sound like a dead fuel pump? Is there a test I can run to be sure? Thank you for any help. |

It does sound like a dead fuel pump to me. Perhaps the gas turned to jello in there when it was sitting. I would suggest first checking the fuses/taking them out cleaning them/WD40 and reinstalling them. The X1 fusebox looks like it's protected under the seat but the "business end" is exposed to the elements. Also, check the connector that goes into the tank for corrosion. Failing all this, I would say you should pull the pump out and have a good look at it. |
