I regretted selling my 08 XT about 3 years ago so have been looking around for another Uly only to find that prices have gone UP? There is a local X model with 61,000 and some cosmetic damage from a wreck. They guy wants WAY to much money for it, $3k, but he would trade for a KLR I have in the garage. The bike has Racks and trunk but only one side bag. All Stock. Question - Is this too many miles? Also, how different is the suspension between the XT and the X, this is an X but will be on road only ( I loved my XT) And can I find a blue XT front fender to get rid of the ugly front beak? Anything I should look for or be aware of at 61K miles?  | ||

I would keep looking. There are lower mileage bikes out there for slightly more money. 61k might have any number of issues. | ||

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the miles, just sneaky stuff damaged in the crash. You know, things slightly bent and not obvious. You have to ask yourself: "Why doesn't he fix it before selling it?" "How much was damaged? Does he even know?" If he was basically giving it away, perhaps it would be worth the gamble. I would keep shopping if I were you. | ||

In the pic you posted, it is running the topcase without side racks. Riding like that will eventually break the tail section, so I'd also take that into consideration for its wear and tear/damage.
Nope, but like you mentioned they are asking too much money for it.
Quite a bit different in height alone, I owned an X for a while, and I'm not on the tall side so its height was always an issue and resulted in many unexpected drops at stop signs, u-turns, and so on, as for me once I lost my footing it went down. If that is not an issue for you due to stature or experience, then don't worry about it. The X suspension is plusher and soaks up more than the XT, but that is about it, both handle fantastic and the suspension is not the limiting factor for these bikes on or off road.
Yep! It bolts right on, just a handful of fasteners. You will need to buy the bracket to support the bottom of the headlamp if you take the beak off.
Pretty much the same stuff as any other bike at that mileage. Crash damage, rust, leaks. Looks like the header is rusting, no avoiding that, but there is a white mark on the frame, possibly just paint or bird poop, but also could be crash damage. | ||

Ya, I'm going to pass on this one. It was appealing because it's in my area. For some reason 99% of all the Buells are on the East Coast or in the South, making it difficult for me here in Seattle. Perhaps someone on this board can help me with a trasaction if I find one away from home. The black Uly in Daytona that Redra65k posted above does not have any contact info in the posting. | ||

i reached out to the owner .... i looked at it myself ... he took it on trade for a victory .. retired construction contractor with a garage mahall .... looked like the rear wheel had been replaced but i didn't know enough about the 3 bearing deal at the time to verify that was why ....no other damage to it .. looked liked someone wanted black though and rattle canned all the plastic ... all bags keyed a like, ram mount, and an led light on the front ... only reason we didn't get it was the 09 came up in jax with only 3200 miles / original owner and 4k so .... sent him a text to verify if he still has it ..... if so i'll forward his info over to you ontheroad | ||
