Awaiting a voltage regulator from Lance at Saint Paul HD, back order date has slipped to mid - late October. I'm missing out on many perfect riding weather days. Anyone know of any available currently, looking for stock Y0302.5A8 for 08 xb12x. Thanks. | ||

I went shindengen MOSFET from roadstercycle. One time conversion for the wiring and I now have a readily available, relatively universal and rock-solid regulator. | ||

I went the same way with the XT and will repeat it on the Scg when it comes up. | ||

I was thinking of going with the shindengen but it seems I would also want to replace my working stator with a new 3 phase stator(trying to avoid additional $$ which may be unavoidable). As I understand (which isn't much in the electrical world)amperage output would be cut by 1/3 using 3 phase vr on my 08 model year without also changing stator. | ||

You should do some resistance tests on your stator (with a multi meter), before installing a new VR. As I understand it, a bad stator can take out your VR, and can take out a new VR. | ||

Started blowing headlight bulbs, VR and stator tested with multi meter, VR was bad but stator tested good. | ||

The shindengen will work on single or 3 phase electrics. | ||

When my VR failed last fall, I replaced it with a Shindigen. I have an '08, charging power is not decreased and the new VR will continue to be readily available. I bought the adapter plate and that made the VR installation quite simple. | ||

+1 on checking the stator, I've already replaced 2 so far (but not since I put in the Shindegen). | ||

I changed to the Shindengen about a year ago. I don't have a digital voltmeter on the bike, but I do have the color-changing LED type (I forget the name brand). There has been no detectable change in output with the new VR. At least the Shindengen offers the possibility of easily upgrading to a 3-phase stator in the future if you wanted to at some point. | ||

I'm personally a fan of the stock unit as it is cheap, plug and play, and (usually) readily available. If I needed a new one today I wouldn't have any qualms about getting of the aftermarket ones listed here as they are good options. | ||

I appreciate all of your help and advice. Guess I will hold on for a couple of weeks and see if my order shows up for stock unit. Will use the shindengen option for my plan B. |
