I've been a faithful user of DP Brakes HH+ pads for quite a while, and have been very happy with their performance characteristics. They have great initial bite, cold or hot, which is very important to me. (I hate high-initial-effort pads.) They also have great stopping power overall, don't dust, are quiet, and last "a while". Unfortunately, the last two sets (part number SDP993) I have gotten have fragmented off friction material and damaged my 1125R's brake rotor. I am reaching out to DP Brakes to see if they'll help me out (I'd like two new sets of pads and a new rotor), but if they tell me to take a hike (since brake pads have no warranty), then I'll go elsewhere. Here's my thought process thus far. (I'm posting this partially for informational purposes, and partially to just keep track of it for myself.) EBC HH compound - I have previously used this on a couple bikes ('03 GSX-R1000, '03 Z1000) and thought it was decent--until I tried the Vesrah SRJL-17 compound, which is positively epic. It's all of the best qualities of the DP Brakes HH+ compound.. except it's not available for the 1125R. I consider EBC pads in general to be inferior (bad experiences with them on cars, too) and won't use them. Vesrah RJL compound - It is available for the 1125R (or at least was), but the set that I used on my '05 Speed Triple were about on par with the EBC HH. I replaced them with DP Brakes HH pads, which were much better. An inferior product. Also, no longer available for the 1125s, so.. yeah. Vesrah SRJL-XX compound - Part number is VD-9038JL. Description says initial bite is comparable to the RJL, so it's out. It was an improvement over the EBC HH, relatively speaking, but not nearly as good as the DP HH or SRJL-17. Also, Galfer's website doesn't list any pads available for the 1125s--just the wave rotor. Ferodo ZRAC compound - Part number FDB2240ZRAC. I have reached out to www.braketech.com support for more info about this pad. The description says "contains pads for one caliper", but I suspect that's a generic text and "one caliper" means "one traditional caliper that takes two pads", not the 4-pad ZTL2. $120 is a bit pricey but I'd pay it if the pad was good enough. Not sure if this is any good or not. To add to the mix EBC now has the EPFA454/4HH which is far better than the traditional FA454/4HH pads... | ||

I believe the EBR WSBK team used SBS brake pads, SBS 856DS are the race pads. SBS offers street/sport brake pads as well, same number but with HS designation. | ||

Yes, both the AMA and WSBK EBR teams used SBS DS pads which were as good as it gets for track use. | ||

Nissin 2015 as long as I can find them. I had a set of EBC extreme HH delaminate after 4 laps and on a new rotor. Topped out and no brakes at the end of the back straight at PBIR is no fun. Top of 6th gear into a 2nd gear corner. Please be careful with budget pads. | ||

IMHO - 2015s - are the best. RIP SBS DS - are great for track (never used on street but for me they would be fine based on track use. EBC EPFA HH - are fine for fast street riding. Brembo - My RSV4 came with these stock. They are great for initial bite. Perhaps a bit too touchy for me. Ferodo XRAC - Not the bite of the Brembo but great feel. Work fine on the street as well as track. (ZRAC claim to have more initial bite. Haven't tried them. DP Brakes - I have a set of these that I wanted to try on my 1190RS race bike, but the thin pad material scared me off. About 2/3 that of the SBS and 2015s. Probably stupid but I can't afford to waste a rotor. I just put an EBC rotor on my street 1125R with the pads that came from a stock 1190RS caliper (Nissin?) Seems to work fine. A little lighter than the EBR 1190 rotor as well. I've re-used rotor bolts with blue loctite. No issues. Try at your own risk. |
