well, my speedo died on me a few days ago. the needle sweeps when ignition is turned on, but then needle just goes back to zero and stays there. probably the sensor. one good aspect is that miles are not accumulating, i'm stuck at 11,974. anyone else see this? bike is 03 xb9s.

Many Buells have killed their speedo sensor. They have come up with a new sensor that is supposedly tougher, though I'm afraid I couldn't tell you the proper part number to order. My Blast killed one, but the Firebolt is still running along at 15K.

I had thought, however, that the XB9Ss had the improved sensor, or was it just that it was a 5V sensor and did not yet incorporate any protective features?

If you do a search you will find countless discussions on this subject. Specifically, though, if you go to the Knowledge Vault's Electrical section and peruse it, you will find information on this from Reepicheep, who devised a more robust sensor configuration, as well as the new Buell sensor part number.

Yup thats what happened to mine, take out the sensor and it will most probs be covered with sworf and oil mix, either clean it up or get the "newer improved" one fitted free of charge.

10 MINUTE JOB.

It will work again, just just a magnet so it collects all manor of shite

The S's are supposed to have the 5V supply from the ECM, the early R's still used 12V.
