ok so heres the deal. thought i lost a gear again on my 01 m2. turns out the locking bracket on the backside of the front pulley broke. thats been fixed. went for a ride and had a knock that seemed to be coming from the mainshaft somewhere. tore back apart and found the middle shift fork had some wear so i figured bent and assumed the knock was from the gear cogs hitting. took for another ride and still have a knock and its definitely from the mainshaft as you can feel it if you put your finger on the center of the mainshaft while moving (dont try at home kids) upon inspection it looks like the 5th gear main and the next gear on the main (2nd main/3rd counter i believe) are hitting on as there are wear marks. the tightening of the nut on the front pulley pull that stub shaft into the bearing and set the depth for that shaft the best i can tell so im assuming when the plate and pulley let loose that the shaft moved away from the case and therefore closed the tolerance between those last two gears. has anyone run into this before? the pulley nut was put on with an impact. better way to assure its seated nice and tight in the bearing race? ill attach a vid so u can hear the sound and maybe itll help someone down the road. |
