Still looking for XB heads or 04 to 06 XL heads, 883 04 to 06 883 heads are acceptable, going to port them anyway. |

The 04 to 06 will adapt to my tube frame, the combustion chambers were redesigned in 04 and flow better than the Thunderstorms, the fins were thicker as well, after 06 they changed the intake side and flattened the floor of the intake side when they went to all injection XL's, going to 1275 kit and this way I can run the big fin cylinders and have better cooling as well as matching fins. |

07-up XL and XB will adapt the same way, you just have to buy the 07-up XL or 08-10 XB intake flanges to match, and center up the manifold good, or buy the billet manifold Hammer offers in the wider width to fill the extra gap, if you are worried about centering it. 07 up have slightly lower intake port floors, but if you are doing enough invasive headwork that 883 heads are acceptable cores, then the lower port floors shouldn't be an issue at that point either as they can easily be welded back up. The later heads are nicer anyway because the flanges are 100 times easier to tighten, since they use 4 1/2" head bolts pulled far enough from the the manifold that you can fit a ratcheting wrench on all of them. Phelan, thanks for the tip. Intended to use Hammer's intake anyway. Currently in information overload, researching on my own and talking with Dan at Hammer. You just gave a concise answer to a lot of the variables I've been dealing with. Good news on the flanges, that'll save an hour and a lot of cussing. As far as the port floors go I tend toward cutting it out as opposed to welding it up, that and I can get a set of 883 heads considerably cheaper than the 1200 heads. Thanks again for the input. Anything else is greatly appreciated. |

Thanks to all who replied. Found a blown 04 1200 in Tucson, good heads, cylinders, pistons and crank wiped out for 275. Thanks again,Norm. |
