Need to replace my side stand flipper and can't find a Buell replacement. Will a Honda Goldwing flipper work?

hmm.... comparing pictures, they do look a little different, most notably the ridge on the Buell flipper is much closer to the middle, on the Honda part it's closer to the end with the hole. I feel like for the $7-8, I might try to order one and see how close it is, even if I need to take a utility knife to the little ridge.

Court.... any chance you could get us some measurements of one of those? width, length, thickness, distance from the end to the hold, distance from the hole to the center of the ridge...

I can try emailing some of the sellers on ebay that have the Honda ones to see if I can get some measurements to see if they might be comparable.

I had a contact in China, I've had a few things made over there. Kicker is you have to send a new part for them to mold, taking a chance you never get it back.

I was going to get a crank seal made for my 1939 airplane engine (Lycoming O-145) because the seals were unobtainable and I had the last "new" one available. I couldn't let it go overseas without knowing if I would ever get it back :/

ok, I just ordered one for $7.50 shipped. It's coming from China though so it'll take a couple weeks to get here, all the ones in the US were at least $12 shipped. Once I get it I'll get some good measurements and post up how well it fits(or what I needed to do to make it fit).

One place selling them had a huge list of Hondas that it fit, and said that it fit over 300 Honda models, so I assume pretty much any Honda that uses one, uses the same one.

From what I remember from years ago... Court said he has an assortment of them and he uses them for door stops at home. I think he just likes posting the pictures to rub it in

Good to know you can order the real part, unfortunately they want $13.75 for shipping, so in the end it costs 4 times as much as the Honda part. Hopefully this new one works out as a cheap option for people.

Is that brake line a hose on both ends, or does it have the metal tube on one end? Did that bike used to have a steel swingarm or aluminum? I heard when you swap from the steel to aluminum swingarm, the original brake line gets a little tight. If that bike had an aluminum swingarm, I'd be curious to know exactly how long the brake line is since it's not hooked up to anything.

The brake line is hose on left side of the switch and metal line on the right side. Cant speak to what type if swingarm it had its a 2000 so if they came with aluminum in that year?

The Honda sidestand flipper came on Thursday. Oddly it was registered mail that needed a signature, so I didn't get to the post office to get it till Saturday.

I took measurements first. The little box welded to the sidestand was 25.86mm wide, 25.68mm tall, and 11.85mm thick.

The rubber flipper was 23.71mm wide, 15.09mm thick, 29.25 from the end to the center of the ridge, 80.05mm long on the short/bottom side, and 83.05mm long on the long/top side. Maybe someone who has the oem part in good shape can get some measurements for us just so we can compare and see exactly how close they are. As far as what I had to work with, the flipper was 2.15mm skinnier than the box on the sidestand, and about 3.24mm thicker. The nice part was the little metal spacer inserted into it, which I've never seen on the oem part, properly sized at 6mm(1/4"). All I had to do to make it fit was take a file to remove about 2-3mm. I feel like a belt sander probably would've been quickest, but I had a sleeping baby so I just used a fairly aggressive wood file and it only took a few minutes on the rubber. I pushed out the metal spacer and filed that down with a normal metal file. Once it was thin enough it slid in and the bolt hole lined up perfectly. There's a small amount of side to side play since it has 1mm on each side, but having never had the oem part I'm not entirely sure how snug that one was. I may just try to find some 1mm aluminum or stainless steel and make a shim to wrap around the outside of the rubber and jam it back in there.

Overall, for $7.50 and a 2 week delivery, I'll consider it a success. I think when my bike gets an overhaul someday that whole thing will probably just get cut off of my sidestand, but for now at least it'll serve it's purpose.

I'm glad you found a $7.50 solution.
In the interest of educating a less informed fellow rider, would someone kindly explain what this doohickee's purpose is? I've never been curious enough to take it off and see what happens, but I never understood it's purpose for being either.

It's only there in case you forget to put your sidestand up before you ride away. When you start to lean to the left, the rubber should drag on the ground and flip up your sidestand before it catches on the ground and launches your back wheel a few inches into the air.

A few people have also said it gives their sidestand enough traction to keep their bike from rolling backwards while it idles and you're not sitting on it.

Theoretically your bike should have a sidestand switch that'll keep you from pulling away with the stand down, but a lot of people (including myself) have removed that switch since they're known to go bad and leave you stranded on the side of the road (again including myself) until you figure out what's causing the problem.

Personally, I just wanted one because I didn't like having the empty block on my sidestand. Someday I'll just cut the whole thing off and not worry about it anymore.

I hack sawed the metal rubber flipper bracket off then filed it until the kick stand was round and you can't tell that it was ever there . Can't see the point of the rubber flipper .I think it looks better without and get minor weight saving to .

I agree it'd look better without it. I fully intend to just cut mine off someday when I'm ready to repaint the frame.

As of now, all it's accomplished is making it a pain to put my bike on the sidestand. I assume over time it'll start to bend and wear down so it leans over naturally. As of now it kinda jams into the ground straight on, I need to roll the bike forward and back a little, or pick the flipper up with the toe of my boot until the sidestand hits the ground. Still better than looking at that little empty mount though.
