I am having a strange problem with my XT. It starts up nicely and idles perfect until....I put weight on the rear of the motorcycle (not perse on the saddle) and so compress the rear shock. The engine immediately slows down and start to run irregularly. Also when riding on the highway and i hit a (small) bump the motorcycle wants to get rid of me. I have read this forum and so far I changed: New plugs and wires, new intake seals and tested them, new fuel pump and tested it and cleaned the ground wire connections. I have no clue what to do next, my shop has no room for me until september. Thanks in advance ! Leo |

Couple ideas... Pull seat and wiggle wires to try and mimic the conditions. Hook up ECM Spy and monitor things while you replicate the problem. |

Sounds like the seat has cracked the connector on the ecm. Check epoxy around the connector to ecm joint, as well as for wear marks on the wiring harness connector and seat pan. |

I agree with Cyclone8u. |

Thanks for the replies, It can not be the ECM because the behavior is also with the saddle removed. I can not reproduce the condition manipulating the wires. When compressing the rear suspension, the engine stalls. The only positive thing is that the problem is easy to reproduce. |

On my '08 TT, the main wire harness runs along the left side of the frame, against the shield at the top of the rear shock. Might try pulling the harness away from the shield and temporarily securing the bundle, and see if the problem repeats. Second thought, is the positive battery cable tight, and is the crimped-on connector tight on the cable? Hope this helps, Dave |

Another thought, or Wild A** Guess: The battery negative cable goes to a ground pin in the rear subframe. Once you are confident that the cable end is tight and the ground pin is secure . . . Take a car jumper cable, and run it from a good ground on the engine and straight to the battery negative terminal. Then see if you can repeat the issue. If so, then the subframe is not well connected to the frame, for whatever reason. Hope this helps, Dave |

Found out today that part of the problem is my own mistake. After replacing the Fuel pump twice (first time the old O-rongs broke) I put a minimum amount of fuel in it. With compressing the rear shock the fuel pump ran dry....... I will now put a few hundred miles on it a see if my seat modification works(put a hole in the bottom where the ECM connector is). Thanks for the help! Leo |

Thank you for the update. Adds to the community knowledge. Good catch on finding the problem. Low fuel was not a problem I had considered. Dave |
