What's everyone getting for mpg on their S2's? Mine is a '96 S2T with 46000 miles, xb heads, and supertrap exhaust, in MN. The best I've gotten, driving it nice down the freeway at under 70 mph, is 49.3. I was wanting mid 50's. My S1 gets 55-60 mpg under the same conditions.
Am I asking too much from a heavy flywheel Sportster motor?

My S2 is a toy I hammer it all the time and love it.42 mpg.Get a honda 90 if you want mileage.

My S2 has factory race-can race-header macunie carb sounds gooood pulls hard all the way.When factory stock 60 mpg and coughing alot.

I've got my carb apart, while I'm fixing a base gasket leak and a burned valve it had when I bought the bike so I haven't had a chance to ride it to get a mileage number. I swear the pilot jet is a 20, main is a 175, and the plug was off the air screw but it was only about .75 turns out. Super lean. I'm putting a CVP carb kit in with their emulsion tube and 45/190 jets, 2.5 turns out on the air screw. I'm expecting around 40mpg. My injected S3 with race map and v&h gets 36-42mpg depending on how twisty my wrist gets.

My S2 stock got around 50 MPG on average. Don't recall the difference between city and highway.

However, when I put S1 Lighting heads and cams in it - and retained the stock heavy S2 flywheels, the mileage went up to an astounding 58 MPG around town and 63 MPG on the highway. More scoot and more MPG! What a great combination that was!

Then I T-Stormed the motor and added the lightened flywheels (the first version) and the mileage came back to around 50 MPG or so on average. The tubers had such good fuel economy I was really disappointed when I got my '08 XB12XT - with it's energy-miser fuel injection - that couldn't even get 50MPG (initially)...

If you're not concerned about originality, S1 Lightning heads and cams increases the efficiency of the powertrain.

what'd you do to squeeze 55-60mpg out of your S1? My S1 gets between 40-49mpg depending on how it's feeling, and it's usually feeling closer to the 40-45mpg end of that estimate. Forcewinder, V&H, 48/195 jets. Never had it stock to compare.

I feel like every bike I've ever had I see people throwing out these wild numbers, and mine never match. Maybe it's just me.

I just got back from a 4,300+ ride and was averaging 42mpg.

An S2 is a bike that was designed to be ridden aggressively. When the suspension is adjusted FOR YOU, it is the best handling/most comfortable tuber Buell out there!

Mine gets about 42 mph with mostly city riding. My S3T gets around 50 in the same conditions.

My S1 isn't anything special. '97, stock motor, 70,000 miles, v&h exhaust, race air cleaner. I've found it like's to drive around 70 mph, and I get 125 miles before reserve on a small tank. That's only freeway driving. If I do some in town driving it goes down to the low 50's upper 40's.

I had a issue with it last year. The vacuum switch failed and that caused the mileage and power to decline. I'll check out the S2's switch, but it's running lean on the low speed so I'll also be looking at the jetting and intake gaskets. This bike was a disaster so who knows what monkey with a hammer was in the carb.

My S2 has a Lightning crank, SE 536 cams, Lightning heads, 45-195 Jets, Vance and Hines SS2R muffler 29T front pulley, ridden hard I get high forties,ridden sane like on a trip 56-60 mpg. Ignition timing is critical to good mileage, read your plugs for ignition line.

Matt, on the X1's I own, I get better, but that is due to fuel injection and an O2 sensor.

Most S2's owners have fiddled with their carb for richer fueling.

I prefer rich.

Filled mine up today. As always...mid-40s tear-assing through twisty mountain roads, working in the valley and living at 1501' elevation and riding a ton in between the two.

Heavy-flywheel bottom end, with Thunderstorm top end, X1 cams, S1W ignition, stock muffler/header, CV carb jetted to 45/195 and 2.5 turns out. S2T saddlebags (big plastic drag chutes!) and T lowers (in cool weather) - so a good bit of frontal area compared to a true non-T S2.

I love it.
