Can someone please give me the part number for the kill switch, ignition etc. controls for the right and left side also, answer if Harley switches will work and if so which ones. Thanks in advance. | ||

Harley will not work they are for 1" bars most buells except I think S2 are 7/8" bars. You will not find them at a dealer if any dealer has them it will be lance at st paul harley he has a buell website. Otherwise ebay. You can use any tuber setup you made need to spice the plugs around though Here is lances site https://sphdonline.com | ||

I checked out twin motorcycles and a few other websites and nothing.. it's near impossible to find parts for this bike which is why it's time to let it go. | ||

Name one part you can't get? 95% of the bike is in the current Harley-Davidson catalog. Call Lance at St. Paul Harley-Davidson tomorrow and I'd wager you can have anything on those handle bars by Wednesday. Be mindful there there are only about 2 companies in the world that made (at that time) motorcycle hand controls. Which is the reason that the Ducati and the Buell were IDENTICAL (except the direction of operation for the run/kill switch), I could be wrong . . . | ||

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding an M2 from the ground up. So far, the only parts I've had a hard time finding are the rear rotor bolts. I think parts, particularly those for the engine, will be in supply for years to come. (Message edited by ft bstrd on July 16, 2017) | ||

Then you just get one from any bike and wire it in. I used generic hand controls and wired them in nonproblem. Most kawi parts interchange. Im with court!! For instance you can still find parts for 1945 Indians and old knuckles they have not been made in how long!!! | ||

Assuming you bought the bike a little before you registered on BWB it has not even been a month. Did you buy the bike without doing any research in advance to know that there is not a very large dealer network involved in this bike and that it is better off having an owner that is confident in the ability to use iginuity in repairs and repair parts and to utilize the knowledge put forth bybothers to solve problems. Heck I figured that out in 09 before I bought mine. There is plenty of owners that have 6 figures on the odometer floating around here. | ||

Just wait until an odd part goes bad on it like the ignition switch for example and you'll feel my pain. Have you called Lance? Even on a Sunday I'm willing to bet a phone call or an email would net you a pretty quick answer. Or are you waiting for someone to simply buy the part for you and drop-ship it to your door? Everything else has been done for you, right here in this thread - the pages from the factory parts manual, the parts listing from the factory parts manual, even a factory list price for the kill switch. All within four and a half hours of the original post. | ||

The flat-key lock for a Sportster will fit fine - I bought two with the same key from Appleton H-D and now I only have to carry one key for my S3 and Softtail. You have to transfer the old connector over, no big deal. | ||

I've got a complete set of bars with switches/cables/master cylinder etc, on eBay, I'd take a good bit less from a badwebber. Only problem is start switch button is broken. Came from a 96 S1 if I recall. I'm not sure if the connectors are the same. https://www.ebay.com/itm/152619350001 | ||

My controls work but are a bit rough. I found a new pair of 1125 controls on eBay for $20 shipped. All I've gotta do is snip some wires and 20 minutes of soldering. It may not be as easy to walk into a dealership off the street and walk out with the part you need, but that's not usually how 20 year old bikes work anyway. | ||

My M2 has the key switch out of my 86 Sportster drag bike, it only needs a toggle switch. | ||

When the ignition switch for my S3 started getting wonky, I ordered a replacement tubular key switch for my bike by ordering one for an identical year (02) Dyna Glide, and gave them my S3's key code. I got no sideways looks, no kerfluffle about how Buell parts are hit and miss, just 6 days later I got a switch that popped into the harness, and fit my key perfectly. I'm not worried about parts for the foreseeable future. Buell made a few very unique parts, but sourced a lot more. With all the chopper builders out there wanting the motor a sportster should have had from the beginning, those odd duck parts will almost always be out there on Ebay. | ||

FYI: The only 1997-1998 S3 parts made of unobtanuium today, that I have tried to find new that is, is the exhaust heat shield and the switch controls. * The replacement heat shield, which has the same part number, is from the S2. What a let down that is. A single sheet of steel with no insulation sandwiched in between. * The switch controls do turn up used. I intend to keep riding my Buells till the day I die. | ||

When my S3 ignition switch starting acting up I took it apart and cleaned the contacts. I installed a relay in line to handle the current, taking the load off of the switch. that was probably 8-10 years ago, haven't had a problem since..... | ||

I guess I thought the part being referred to is 71831-97Y. Right handlebar switch, which was made obsolete in Feb. 2010 by HD. Thats a pretty handy list even just to find a part number. I can almost guarantee that any switch fir these bikes is still made. They did not custom engineer and make a specific switch. They decided on a switch to use and designed the housing around it. If one were to really dig through switch manufacturers catalogs I bet its there somewhere. Just like are seat screw was not custom made | ||

As we come across cross fit parts, it would be nice if we made a reference list of these. It would be most helpful. Right now my speedo cable on the S1 wore out on the wheel end and looking for a replacement. (my fault as somehow I had a bit of a kink in the bottom of the cable where it attaches to the speedo mechanism on the wheel) HD has them (Y0505.9)on back order with the expectation of getting them in later in September. I'm looking for a cross for this. | ||

Tom, Why not pull kinked one off and head down to HD and match ends and length up there. Or, Ducati, Moto Guzzi may have what you need. |
