I've told my kid that any person or party in power asking for people to sacrifice their most basic rights for promises of handouts (we all pay for) cannot and should not be trusted. That Beinart stipulates as an article of faith at he start that Trump is racist, etc. and builds the rest off that. If you reject that or just want actual examples, the rest of his piece falls apart. I frankly don't care what anyone's beliefs are so long as they're not pushing them on me. Anything that can bring hope, compel people to be better and have purpose can't be that bad. That said this undying, fanatical belief in government and their obsessive fetish with Islam is a bit weird. We're all about women and gays so we'll import cultures that are...uh...these aren't the Muslims you are looking for... There is zero effort, and in fact massive efforts to shroud and disguise the fact that there is a corrosive fundamentalist sect of Islam seeking to destroy all that oppose them. I'm all for immigration, being an immigrant myself, but promoting this multicultural ideal to mass immigration and encouraging and condoning illegal immigration is insane and antithetical to a healthy, functioning, free society. The left makes it all about race but it's really all about culture. We can look up north and see where Canada will be in a few decades. Probably right behind France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and others. I consider my position and standing in life lucky. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have grown up here. I cherish what we have left as a semblance of freedom. Those that share opposite sentiment are entitled to their opinion but have no business claiming this country as their own.
