Awesome idea Jim2. I've always used a big gear puller that I only marginally can get behind it. DAve |

I was thinking it would come off easy since it's in two pieces. Will get that tool if it don't. Hope it's not stripped, I noticed from pics the end is tapered back normally. Side question, my bike kicks out the oil from the transmission tube at the rear subframe. Can the shifting bushing be replaced without opening the transmission case? I talked to a hd mechanic and he said he can pull the bushing out and put in a new one but I don't think this is why it whips out oil at the tail, only around the shifter arm. It needs a bushing inside the transmission case replaced right? As well as the one around the shifter arm shaft? |

Check to see if the primary fluid level is high, and the engine oil level is low. Oil from the transmission tube is a classic symptom of the crankshaft main seal leaking engine oil into the primary. Since you have to remove the primary cover to take off the primary drive assy to get to the oil seal, replacing the shift bushing will be easy. Hope this helps, Dave |

Ok yeah the oil res under the seat gets low so I fill up a 1q once in a while. It's been like that since I got it. Sometimes it will kick out oil sometimes not. I put a k&n breather on the tube and that's it.thinking of putting a catch can under the seat but this I need to fix! I was thinking of sending it in to get the crank seal fixed because I don't know about opening the transmission. Another weird thing is I was able to take the rear passenger pegs off but the frame part for the isolator I could not get the bolts to budge! They're pretty much the same kind of bolts to. |

My advice would be to buy a service manual and learn how to work on your scooter yourself. The seal that is causing oil to vent out that tube is usually caused by a crankshaft seal that separates engine oil from the primary oil. Not a difficult job and a great group of people on this website that will help you. |

A crank seal job is really easy for H-D dealers to do since it is the same deal as a normal sportster. They go out all the time and so every service department is down with the dance. I had my local dealer fix mine some years back and it was pretty cheap. Of course you could do it yourself but it's not a Buell-specific thing that they are likely to mess up. |

Yeah I am not afraid to do some stuff. It's just maybe it might be more convienant if it doesn't cost to much. I used to do autobody and learned acetylene and mig welding so I do like to work on and repair stuff. Just that if I have to yank on some part while my back is hunched over or I have to lay on my side for a long time with my arms out, I kinda rather pay someone to do it unless it's crazy expensive.. either way I really should pick up a manual, I always like to know how things work and how it's put together. |

Nah I think it's a direct bolt on replacement. I'll be installing it myself unless I run into a issue I'll check back. That looks good. One thing is my shifter has a large shifter peg, don't know if it's a stock one or replacement but it's pretty cruiser like. I'm gonna try not to spend to much on this bike but I want to keep it. Like to get a fxrt and maybe a sportster with a 1275. Maybe a blend of the two would be good. The riding position is good for me on this bike. Only I get cramps in my thigh when I ride a lot, I think. It's the only bike I've gotten a cramp in my thigh out of the bikes I've owned. Still not often but yeah cramp like a mofo. lol. I tried a xb9 once and damn that seating position I didn't like at all. Felt completely cramped sitting on it.

Mine has a pretty substantial shifter peg too. I think the smaller ones look better, but I've been riding this one for a while without so much as a scuff on the toe of my boot, so I'm inclined to keep it on there for now. |

Thanks for looking man! I'm kinda in a rush, want to put a few more miles on my bike this summer, didn't know if you'd get back to me since I didn't get a follow up on another part from another guy. If nobody needs it, I'll pick it up as a spare. Always good to have a spare part around just in case. |

Ok will do. Got it in today and installed it. I think it has a better shift. Will have to try it out in the morning and see if I need to adjust it more forward. Didn't need a tool to put it on. Old one dropped right off. Splines look great also.

Tried it out this afternoon I think there is a slight improvement in the shift. Here's a pic of how it looks. It kinda matches the battery strap.. Gotta rivit and install my exhaust next.
