Bomber, for the cassettes the software WAVclean is dead simple to use and extremely effective, version 1.5 costs $20, use the Scrub setting at 10% for starters. No good for vinyl.
Cassettes don't store well so maybe best start there. Good luck, you'll need lots of time. |

I love this stuff.....As a gadget freak, who happens to live only blocks from the world's most famous guitar store, I love hanging out on New York City's "Guitar Row".
Where else can you be fiddling with a Jazz Bass only to find Lenny Kravitz or Paul Simon doing the same thing next to you.
I'm not sure what I want, I have lots of learning to do, but I confess to a fascination standing there in the rooms full of recording equipment.
Something neat and simple that I can do basic recording and remixes on.

Yep, it's a nice cab, if not a little bulky to move around.. on top of that, slavin' the amp is great for 'spreading' the low end around like I like. Since I used to run one efected, one clean I always seemed to give the sound board coniptions. But, my logic was, you've got two or more guitars, two to four vocals and what at least a half dozen drum.. What's wrong with two (or three) bass?
When handled by a pro, it would sound awesome! And there was a lot more control for the PA as opposed to running a simple dry line. Once, at the hands of a real pro, he used all three signals (Clean to the 15's/effected to the 10's and MegaBottom at the 18) when I was wandering out front, in the crowd, during an insturmental I got to hear it clearly and you could almost feel the division and low end punch. If I'm ever up and playing again.. I'll have to post here for good sound reinforcement.. and who knows.. maybe we could put together a 'Hooligan' band from all the players on the BadWeb.. Now that would scare some folks, wouldn't it?

It's funny how Guytrons pop up in the strangest places. Landau has a couple of them, though he uses CAE's most of the time live.
As for Bomber's Esquire fetish. I had a super nice tele a few years ago that I sold the to lead singer of my old band. It was an American Standard with the B-Bender. I think it weighted about 25 pounds with all the extra metal in it. It was awesome sounding though. One of the best sounding Tele's I've ever heard. My next will be a Thinline Tele with regular Tele pups instead of the humbuckers. Those are my favorites.

If you're want to start learning and screwing around with recording get the free pro tools download. It's a good way to start gaining experience. But the best way is to talk to studio types and learn about the basics of recording. In recording Theory matters.

I beg to differ. When it comes to pure performance I'll take my Modified PRS CE24 over anything on the planet. I took one of the cheaper guitars in the PRS line (Still a little pricey) and modded the electronics a bit with a nice set of EMG's and some extra electronics. I can go from Police style clean tones to shred guitar to jazz.
My main strat is so loaded with stuff that it's almost obscene. I have a modified EMG David Gilmour system with an added EMG89R humbucker, plus a Fishman Powerbridge and Powerchip preamp for acoustic tones. So it has a total of 5 pickups three preamps and two active EQ modules in it. But it has less magnetic pull on the strings than a guitar with two passive humbuckers and it sounds great (looks like hell though, too many rough gigs!) It's possibly the most flexible instrument I've ever seen.

A hooligan band would be cool but I'm afraid folks would start up the old "How many guitar players does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" jokes. We will take it easy on the bass players and drummers - they've had it hard enough for too long.

I kinda have to side with Bomber here on simplicity. I, myself, have an old strat ultra with actives and a powerbridge that I used to do coverband stuff with the racks. Just about every sound in the world. But there is something about a passive pickup, a cord, and an amp.
But then again my chops aren't what they used to be.

phew . . . . you guys gots lots a gear . . . . nuthin wrong with it, of course, but I tend to keep the gear thing down to:
1 -- what I could fit in my own 4 wheeler
2 -- what I could operate properly when playing in the optimal zone, which is, in my opinion, the same zone Van Morrison's bamds always operate in . . . . . they always sounded tight, relaxed, having big fun, and as if one more beer would have them falling down . . . . .. . . |

Simple, HA!
To me it is pretty simple compared to what I used to run.
When I want simple it's my Heritage H535 (Basicly a Gibson 335) into my Fender or my Vox. That's a killer rig for anything "rootsy". A Tube Screamer turns the Fender into an awesome soloing amp in the veign of Larry Carlton.
Fun stuff.

Call me aging, but the guitar intro to "Couldn't I just tell you" still sends me.

Eagle Classic + old TS9 + RE501 + Pro Reverb 3 nights a week!

Just do what Billy Shenan did. Get a Servodrive subwoofer. The Navy uses them to simulate the sound of a 16 inch gun firing. Shenan used them to move the front row back 4 feet or so. Nothing has more low end MPF factor.

Send some pics of your stuff. I always dig seeing what others are pickin. I grabbed the cam from the office and shot these in a hurry - sorry for the quality.
I have plenty of time to woodshed now that my bike is fragged. It's going to stay on the lift until I can afford the parts to rectumfy the sicheashun.
I know I am out of pocket for 11 to 1400 to do the bike right!

Nice gear guys, now don't laugh...
My first electric, built the body from a slab I cut with a chainsaw when getting firewood when I was 18. Neck pickup from my Granny's acoustic which she bought when she was a trainee nurse. Assembled 25 years ago. Sounds similar to an SG Gibson.
Homebuilt distortion box, direct copy of late 80's Marshall preamp circuit with 2 12AX7's and 270V DC high voltage rail; and a bakelite sewing machine pedal mounted on some 1/4" flat steel running a direct copy of a Colorsound Wah pedal circuit with home-wound inductor.

Godin ACS Nylon String W/Synth Access
Custom Carvin 747 7 string (only one one earth like it)
1965 Fender P-Bass (My Father's and my most cherished possession)
In my hands is my favorite guitar, my PRS CE24 with EMG's. I love it, it also has a mid booster instead of a tone, for when you need to blow out the input stage of your amplifier!

Yeah,
I'm looking to add to my guitars. I've really started to like the 1 11/16 inch width at the nut of my PRSi. So I want to add a Jackson, Anderson or Suhr superstrat. Maybe I'll jus get another replacement neck for my Blue strat...
Oh yeah,
I will have a Dr.Z amp as well. I want a Maz Jr. 18 watt. That amp sounds amazing, maybe the best and most versitle EL84 amp I've ever heard. I had a blast with one a couple of weeks ago and it kicked my GAS into high gear!
(GAS=Gear Aquisition Syndrome.)

Man, Im' in the wrong business. I wish I could even think of new gear right now. I'm still trying to get the bike fixed for summer, and I'm in the middle of rebuiding the engine in an old Pontiac. No spare cash for a few months. The sad part is I still get employee pricing at my old music store.....talk about ironic! Have you considered Matchless, Bad cat or even THD. I had a Bi-valve at home for a while and was really impressed. Then again all players taste are different. Just a bit of advise, I was really disapointed in the Carr amps that supposed to be hot right now. I signed one out and took it straight to a gig. It blew dog.
Have fun shopping and think of the less fortunate musicians elsewhere in the world. We will live vicariously through you!

I carry a heavy load...
I've tried Matchless and Badcat and they are WAY too expensive and no better sounding than the Dr. Z which is around a grand street price. Dr. Z is by far the best value in boutique amps. They are amazing for roots rock and straight ahead 60's and 70's sounds. Court, Bomber your ears should be perked up!
