Is an X OK for 2 up weekend touring? I am aware of the suspension/height increase over an XT, but how is handling compared to XT with two people? I am considering an 09 12X | ||

Personally, I think it's awesome and effortless. (I weigh about 73 kg and my passenger 55 or thereabouts.) | ||

The more adjustable suspension you have the better the ride. Only down side to the X for me is I can't reach the ground while seated. | ||

Would the extra suspension cause the bike to dive in turns or hard braking? | ||

Nah, I would characterize it as sporty but comfortable. | ||

It's rated for something like 450 lbs load capacity. You'll be fine with the stock suspension if it's adjusted properly. | ||

Just crank up the rear shock. I did a lot of two up at combined 600 or so load weight. Only problem was keeping front wheel down on uphill starts. | ||

The same goes for the XT..450lb rating? Thanks for all the advice. I just sold my Stt and deciding on which Uly to have for touring | ||

Either bike isn't going to be the limiting factor in handling. Both bikes are great, the X suspension is taller and a little more plush. 06 Ulys would do the "Uly Gallop" when pushed really hard, but later years or retrofitted fork springs fix that. Both bikes will support your passenger and cargo without any mods. I've ridden Ulys loaded up and with passengers. Other than needing to feather the clutch more to safely launch, and needing a little more effort to support the bike at red lights, I have no idea a passenger is even on the bike. If height is an issue, get the XT, otherwise get whichever one floats your boat more. | ||

Xb12x best 2 up motorcycle I have owned. Seat is comfortable for both rider and passenger, handles very well and is well suspended. They do sit high but lower seats can be had. | ||

Xb12X if it's a 2006 put on the front the 2007 springs they are a progressive and much better. | ||

Looking to find a low mileage, 2009 X or XT. Good to hear that I don't have to change rear shock, or replace springs in front forks. I rented an 06X when they came out, and with my 32" inseam, I could touch the ground (like on a dirt bike). I am in SE Idaho and the pickings are slim. I'll probably have to do a road trip when I find one. | ||

I like the stock springs in the '06 forks. But I grew up on dirt bikes and I guess I don't know any better!  I put the bike on the side stand, let the wife climb aboard the pilot seat, she slides back to the pilon and I slide across in front of her. Many many 250 mile days. With the extra weight including crap in the bags, reaching the ground is no longer any kind of issue. Two up handling? Ask anyone who knows Barker about that. |
