I've measured the screws that hold the plastic on my Buell as 1.5mm coarse thread pitch (equating to M10 size), and a .246 or 1/4 inch shaft size (6.26mm). I need to clean up some threads that got boogered when putting the muffler cover back on, but I cannot find any taps that match those dimensions. Stocked M10 taps always seem to have a much larger shaft diameter (10mm?) Is that a custom screw size, or should hole taps for those dimensions be readily available? |

They are 1/4"-20 thread with a 5/16" shoulder. I just went out to double check and ran a cleaning die over the threads to be sure. |

Cool. Thanks! I thought they were metric, thus my confusion. I guess I should be able to find the 1/4"-20 much more easily. |

No. Them's smaller. I think everyone strips one of them. |

They are either 8-32's or 10-32's. Not sure as I haven't had those off in a while. Use anti-sieze on them and don't crank them too tight! |

Thanks for the data and making me feel better about the stripping. |

My flyscreen was barely tapped from the factory. they were so bad that you couldn't start them by hand. I chased all six of them with a tap and made my life so much easier. I think that installed them at the factory with a hammer or something |
