04 buell xb12r 10700 miles. the battery will not charge while the bike is running. i put a multimeter on the battery, reading 13.3v when the bike is running, which is well below the 14.5v it should be at. I have performed a wiggle test at the terminals, and at the plug where the stator connects, no change in voltage. if i jump the bike, it runs for about 45 seconds, before it dies, the tach zeros out, then sputters and dies. replaced the stator 1500 miles ago with a salvaged stator. I don't smell any burnt smell when opening the primary through the chain inspection port. my bike guy tells me that it could be the Voltage Regulator. But i would assume if the vr is bad, the charge level would be higher, not lower. does anyone have any ideas? |

When the VR fails, it voltage can go either way as the VR is no longer properly regulating voltage. Before replacing anything, check the "77" connector, it is under the front pulley cover and is a black 2 pin connector. It is a common issue on older XBs that the connector melts internally, and when it does you won't charge anymore. The connector links the VR to the battery. |

i will check this and report back, thanks. I know when i replaced the stator 9 months ago, it seemed fine. |
