I wanted to lower my X by an inch because I rarely have any load on it and I feel like I'm being pushed into the intake cover. So I found a spring from Hyperpro and they only list an 06-07 spring. They insist the rear shock changed in 08. I was trying to hunt down part numbers but I'm not getting much. Mizu.com has a drop collar I can use with a small cutout on the splash guard to make it fit but I really wanted a nice aftermarket progressive spring. What are the differences in the 07 to the 08 shock and what spring are you guys using??? Thanks BILL (Message edited by Hugie03flhr on June 12, 2017) |

All years of X use the same rear shock assembly. Part number K0410.1AK is listed as the entire assembly in both 2006 and 2010 parts books. |

Ok, so if Hyperpro rear spring listed for 07 should work. Thanks Froggy. Is there any other aftermarket spring I should be considering? I have a guy selling the full lowering kit from Hyperpro it's cheap enough that I'll by it just for the rear spring but I was wondering if the front springs will work in my 09 X also. I know the forks are thicker but I'm sure if the springs changed. |

The fork springs changed twice. There was what came stock on the 06, then the progressive springs on the 07s, and the thicker 08 forks have their own springs. I don't know if different springs will fit. |

Are you certain that you have both front and rear preload set correctly? Insufficient front preload and/or excessive rear preload will cause the bike to ride with a nose-down attitude. Check the owner's manual for settings appropriate to your weight (use the link above). I have found the Ulysses to be far more sensitive to suspension adjustment than any other motorcycle that I have ridden. |

I have the rear all the way down as low as it can go. The front I played with a little and it's better but it seems like the bike was designed to have an extra 50-60lbs on the back, like the police version would have. The only part I notices was about 1/2 inch of the tubes sticks up past the triple trees. When I checked other Ulys , this seemed to be normal. Give or take 1/8 of an inch. I was going to slide the tubes flush with the top of the trees but I was afraid there might be a reason for the tubes sticking up. Maybe it will mess up the threads on the cap or the preload adjusters. |

The forks have a clip that aligns them with the upper triple clamp. This is just to set ride height and the forks could be dropped. I am a bit over 6' tall and weigh about 180#, minus riding gear. I find that my '08 sits quite level with the factory recommended settings. Do you have the stock '08 seat? |

is the rear spring progressive or a straight weight winding? |

This pic might be hard to see but the fork sticks up over 1/2 inch. Can I slide the tube down to the cap? The rear spring is stock and is progressively wound but is the same diameter throughout. I have 3 seats. Low, medium and I purchased an OEM high seat. All still have the nose down feeling. If I'm on the gas a little or going up hill, I'm perfectly comfortable. I think if I can raise that triple tree, I'll be good but I'm not sure if I can do it without messing something up. |

The wire clip is removable, and prevents the fork tube from sliding up through the upper clamp when the clip is in place. This will not interfere with your effort to drop the tubes a bit. Raising the front of the bike will change your seat angle, but it will also affect the bike's steering geometry. Use care, I have found my '08 to be sensitive to geometry changes. |

Give that a try. I don't think it will cause a problem. It's a small change, but might be enough to make it more comfortable, for you. You might change the handlebar position (rearward) slightly, so your upper body is more upright. |

If you're used to riding an FLH then I can see why you might feel like the bike is tilted. Your forks look in the stock location. I know I lean forward to reach the bars which is good at speed but when I stand up off road they are low. Many have gone with Rox Risers and raised them 2". This sets you up straighter and might be all you need. I was going to do this but just haven't got around to it. |

Thanks guys. I think we are getting off track a little. I have a 1 inch riser and I'm 6'2" 250lbs so I sit pretty upright. You can even see it in the pick the downward slope on the seat that has me riding on my nuts rather than my ass! It's great for technical dirt riding and getting aggressive but cruising it gets annoying. When I have someone on the back or cruising up hill, it's perfect. It only needs to go a little bit. So I'm gonna remove that clip and slide those tubes up. Good thing I have a 34 inch inseam! Thanks for the warning on the handling. I noticed when I tried setting it up the difference with every adjustment. Buell did his homework when designing these XBs |

You won't have to remove the clip, the fork tubes will move down, or you could think of it as the triple clamps moving up. You want to raise the steering head. Sliding the forks up through the clamps, more tube above the top clamp, will lower the front of the bike. |

Thanks Mark. I'll tackle that this week coming up. Thank You everyone. It's something simple like this that makes your riding experience awesome with the right fix. |
