I've been a Uly owner for a few years now, and absolutely love it. Came from riding a blast for about 5 years, before making the step up to the Uly. However, now my wife has been joining me riding quite a bit of 2 up this year. 2 up riding, just doesn't seem as enjoyable on the Uly as I had hoped it would be, and my knees are starting to really want to stretch out a little more. So I'm looking for suggestions on another bike to add to the stable. One that would be used primarily for two-up riding, and longer distance type of rides. I'm a little bit past trying to attack the twisties, and looking forward to a more relaxed ride. Any ideas? |

Since the Ulysses is the best 2-up bike that I've owned, I guess that I cannot add much. I've found that there is plenty of room for both of us. When adjusted as per the owner's manual, the bike handles well too. |

I'm with Mark on this - the best 2-up bike I've ever had. My wife and I have covered tens of thousands of miles between my '06 X and my '09 XT. One observation though - on the XT we both prefer to put on the original high seat from the X when 2-up. If you have one of the later, lower seats the original, flatter one will give your knees a slightly changed position? |

Hmmm... I don't have the owner's manual. What do I need to do to adjust the suspension for a 400lb load? Maybe that's the problem. |

I have to concur with these guys. Before I bought the Uly, My wife and I test rode nearly every ADV bike that was on the market in 2008: her comfort was a major criteria in my decision making process, and she liked riding pillion on the Uly better than anything else. Granted she is 4-11 and 100 lbs. of body-building muscle, but even compared to the GSA, the Uly was best. For me, I really didn't feel much difference from one bike to another. I'm 6'-2" and 230 lbs., so I need a bit of space for for and aft movement, which was compromised on pretty much everything. I think the only way to increase two-up comfort for me would be to go to a full-dress tourer - which offers absolutely no appeal to me. |

Only 400 lbs is easy for the Uly. With the bags loaded the wife and I run closer to 600. That knob under the seat on the left side, crank it all of the way up loaded. Just got to be careful to not launch front tire on those steep up intersections. |

My girlfriend and I are more comfortable on my 1125CR than my Ulysses. The 1125 handles the extra weight better too. The big downside is the lack of cargo room, a big Ventura luggage rack and bag helps, but that is only one bag. |

The owner's manual link for '08 models still seems to work (it is at the top of the page). The manual has a complete table of suspension settings for varying loads and riding conditions. |

The OP's profile says he has an '06, so the front end settings will differ from the 08 manual...but the rear should be the same. I simply crank my rear preload to full with a passenger, and that's the only change I make on my Uly (06 with 07 fork springs). |

Indybuell, Never let your wife know you call her a 400 pound load. |

I've got a 09 XT and keep the low seat on it all the time. I have a good friend (lady) that refuses to ride with me on the XT. The first and only time she came with me she said her rear end was numb in the first 15 minutes. She said that when I get a Goldwing to let her know. She's not a big person, maybe 5 foot 2 and 120 pound weight class. |

Have to echo what Mark Weiss and Rays said, best two up bike I've ever had. Not sure what bike I would have over it in that regard. |

The Ulys are great 2 up bikes but I still have an 03 Roadking for the long hauls with the wife. Needless to say the roadking has a nice coating of dust. |

Looking at grabbing a used Vulcan 1500 Nomad. Any thing to be watchful for? |

Other question, with a 400lb load, and the preload all the way up, the bike occasionally bottoms out on small hills, or dips. Is my shock done, or is that normal? |

if im loaded down or 2 up, ive bottomed out the rear suspension too. I just figure that I'm pushing the limits for what the bike was built for and slow my pace a bit. |

similar experience here on 2up comfort aspect, very good. may you should check on your preload adjust mechanism? already read a post about not working properly. me and my wife with luggage make a big load and not bottomed after spinning the knob. |

There is a few threads on refilling the preload adjuster. 400lbs shouldn't have you bottoming out unless you hit a big bump. If it happens over a whoop ty doo you might need to adjust your compression setting. |
