Anyone ever replace the rear shock out of necessity? As the forks require oil replacement on a regular basis, so I'm curious how many miles one can expect out of the rear shock. I don't recall ever seeing a thread about this. Are there any common upgrade/replacements other than OEM? | ||

Rear shocks can be rebuilt, but it doesn't seem to be necessary very often. | ||

I got around 95,000 out of my shock before it lost the fluid. | ||

There is really a very small aftermarket because the rear shock is high quality and is rebuildable. I'm at 75k miles and have noticed that I have had to dial in a few more clicks of rebound damping to maintain ride quality. It is probably about time for new oil, gas charge, and seals. | ||

mine is at a race tech certified rebuilder. race tech recommended 8kg spring over stock 6.85kg. i have done the fluid top-off at least 2 times= so tome for complete rebuild. main problem besides wheeling way too easy with 2up, is that power wheelies causes a chatter. originally thot this to be from bad springs or rivets in the clutch carrier. others here indicated it more likely from over compression of shock and therefore rear engine isolator. we'll find out in another week. i weigh 150# and my wife is less | ||

oil leaking (seals) seams to be the only driving factor in redoing a suspension piece. I don't think I ever heard of an XB loosing function of the suspension from wear. The old tubers had some spectacular failures though LOL |
