Well, after suffering tooth-rattling vibration for way too long, I finally got around to swapping out my front isolator. Oh my god, what a difference. It almost feels like a new bike. I am curious though. Has anyone had experience with the rear isolator going out? The rubber bushing is far more robust than the one up front, but I imagine it still has a life-span. And considering the 4 season daily commuting abuse I expose the beast to, I wonder how much life it might have left. | ||

My experience changing the front isolator has always been exactly that. So smooth. The rear isolators are under load totally differently. I have only heard of them being replaced due to accident damage. I don't recall hearing of any failing from use. | ||

How many miles do you guys typically get out of a front isolator? | ||

My 2008 has mid-50K miles on it now on the original isolator. I think I'm just lucky though. A few have had theirs fail under 20,000 miles. | ||

Mine typically start to fail around eight to twelve thousand miles. To qualify that, when two up my Uly is at or over the GVW, and I have a bad back that is quite sensitive to the vibrations that go through the frame to the seat. My current one has been in around 15,000 miles. Very little of that has been two up or loaded out. My experience is that heavy loads can wear them down faster. At nearly 64,000 miles I am on the fifth one including the original. I have changed a couple isolators out for other Uly riders that completely failed at around 25,000 miles with no two up loads. Seems like it is a wear item not unlike the rear wheel bearings. Some go a really long ways some don't. I just treat it like a wear item, if it needs one it gets one. If it is still good with 10,000 miles on it, I like to keep one in stock. | ||

My 08 is at 49k on the original one, it doesn't look failed like I've seen in pictures, but my plan is to swap it at 50k for that "new bike feel". | ||

My 08 (59,000 km) start to shaking more hard than usual and even the rubber not been collapsed seems to be time to change. I ordered a new front isolator and replaced it, just become another ride! Probably the best investment on the bike I did! | ||

The rubber web up in the big hole will crack long before it will break out completely. When the cracks get prominent enough the isolator allows the engine to bottom it out transferring vibrations. But it will still "hang" the proper gap to bolt head distance for a long time. | ||

Mine has about 38K, but the isolator has been on it's way out for at least 10K. It finally bottomed out, so I had no choice but to replace. Fortunately I had bought a replacement back right after Buell closed it's doors. I hope the new one will last through the rest of my ownership. | ||
