Every day. That's why I want orbital kinetic strikes. ( the blazing bar of plasma striking the target can be explained away as God's Wrath if you are so inclined to play mind games with the enemy. I am so inclined. )
In walmart tonight, I saw the cover of some foody magazine which advertised recipes for the glorious flavors of Ramadan.
They're so culturally enlightened. I'd love to take those journalists, editors, and publishers to Afghanistan during Ramadan, drop them off in the desert and then explain to them that they will be publicly beaten and arrested if they are caught drinking water during the daytime. In the 120 degree scorching heat. Oh yeah, it's also illegal to wear shorts BTW. Good luck with that. It's a fact that hospitals in the middle east experience an influx of heat injuries, dehydration, and yes, even overeating injuries during ramadan. They're so righteous and holy.
Just below that was an article on how May was polled at 1% likely to win. I have little opinion on her, but her main opponent seems to be a hard communist and pro-"let them all in" pro-EU guy, so I hope he loses.
One of the comments is that Europeans may be about to snap over the jihadists mass murdering and that it's not a pretty thing when Europeans snap. And that it's not going to be safe to be Muslim in Europe when they do.
I'm not sure that's going to happen. The German, French and English communist leaders are all pro invasion and the Dutch & Canadian leftists are prosecuting people who tell the truth about Islam & Sharia. This may prevent any "snap" from being useful or on time.
One thing we know from history. Denial about the enemy just makes it worse when the war comes.
I don't understand everything about British Party policies. Their Right is Left of normal to me, and their far right is still left of center from a century ago.
But one thing I do know from history is that the Pro-Hitler ( pre-Dunkirk ) Left in England, the George Bernard Shaw types, the "Progressives" are the ones that proposed Death Camps to rid society of the undesirables.
It's odd. George wrote some of my favorite quotes, "A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul." or "Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything." yet he also proposed that the chemists create a poison gas to speed the murder of the poor, the crippled, and the undesirable immigrants.
“I appeal to the chemists to discover a humane gas that will kill instantly and painlessly. In short- a gentlemanly gas deadly by all means, but humane, not cruel.”
He also like the idea of having musicians play classical music as the folk were marched into the gas chambers. Which, soon, really happened in Germany & Poland. Gotta be Classy while you slaughter, right?
It's amazing how the older, cynical Shaw sounds just like contemporary American leftists and their hopes & dreams.
Specifically Bill Ayers and his Weather Underground, and their discussions on how the re-education camps needed after the Revolution would necessarily kill tens of millions. Omelette, eggs.... you know.
I'm sure if you look at history, there has been a "right wing" group that was into censorship & detention orders. Feel free to enlighten me. For the last century that has been the standard MO for the left.
What I think I know about the current state of Islam. 1. Islam is not really a monolithic religion. There are as many sects and divisions within it as there are with Christianity. 2. Within Islam clerics become so by being recognised by their congregation more than by training or appointment. 3. Within Islam much of belief comes down to personal interpretation of the Koran and the Hadith. 4. The Koran may have come from Mohammed but the Hadith are a collection of sayings attributed to Mohammed, reminiscences and interpretations. 5. Within the Islamic community one can't be declared a heretic one can only be told that his interpretation is different. N.b. This doesn't work in practice hence the popularity of blasphemy laws in Islamic countries. 6. In morally repressed societies filled with underemployed, poorly educated young men there is a great deal of frustrated testosterone in the air . 7. The religious division in Islam pits Sunnis against Shias for power in their communities. The smaller sects line up in alliances with these two major players. I.e. The alawhite ruling majority in Syria lines up with Shia Hezbollah and Shia Iran. 8. The major political players correspond to Sunni Arab Saudi Arabia and Shia Iran which is culturally, racially and politically different to Arabia. 9. What we are currently embroiled in is an uncivil religious war which probably resembles more than anything else the thirty years war which devastated Europe in the seventeenth century. 10. The more we are involved in it the more they will share their violence with us.
I still think the correct solution to 9/11 was a) dismantle Afghanistan and then leave. With the promise to return if there were further problems b) institute the Mossad response which the Israelis made to the Munich Olympic attacks.

A. Agreed. There was no reason to stay in Afghanistan, and less than no reason to prop up a corrupt government that no one outside the capital wanted anyway. The overthrow of the Taliban was a good thing, but staying was a major mistake.
Says a lot for how stupid Obama was when he declared Afghanistan "the good war" and then lost more American troops than Bush.
B. I might be game for that. Hunt down their families and associates and murder them in cold blood as vengeance and a warning. It works, but it's a hard sell for American liberal sensitivities.
Within Islam clerics become so by being recognised by their congregation more than by training or appointment Incorrect. To be a mullah you must be able to read the words of the Prophet in Arabic, and make pilgrimage to Mecca. Getting a congregation is a matter of many factors, just like any church.
What we are currently embroiled in is an uncivil religious war which probably resembles more than anything else the thirty years war which devastated Europe in the seventeenth century. Not a terrible analogy, but you have to go back further. It's a war of conquest. The last major Islamic Offensive was stopped at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. You could peg the start of that war in 1299. ( or 55 years later when the Ottoman Empire invaded Europe. If you are a smug self centered European ) Or if you are inclusive... 610.
Those who speculate on the "take a time machine back to kill Hitler in 1920" type fantasies might better consider going back to 609, in Mecca, where your meddling would save more people than can be counted. It's a toss up between that and busting Lenin for bank robbery in Germany so the Soviet Union never happened, and Germany would have lost WW1 much faster, and without the insanity of the treaty of Versailles that led directly to WW2.
Or you could poison Marx's absinth years earlier and save over half a billion people.
The more we are involved in it the more they will share their violence with us. Untrue. An attractive notion, I admit. But it's way too late.
Again, time machine! and stop the Brits & French from messing up the ruins of the Ottoman Empire after WW1? That might help. But after the Brits & French set up the countries in the middle east with an eye towards rewarding their allies and no sense of tribal divisions, there was guaranteed perpetual war in the region, and it was going to spill over into the rest of the planet.
Or, time machine again, stop Jimmie Carter from giving Iran to a theocratic monster, and the world would be better off.
Or, stop Obama from pretty much everything he did in foreign policy, especially screwing Iraq, staying in Afghanistan, giving billions of dollars to Iran, and deciding to hitchhike along with the "Arab Spring", overthrowing Libya, screwing Egypt, and smuggling weapons to AQ in Syria, creating ISIS, ( maybe by accident, but who knows? Obama would just lie if asked ) and creating the "refugee crisis" that is a major cause of rape in Europe today.
Far too late to change what the Brits did in 1918.
Very expensive to correct Carter's naive stupidity. ( possible, and maybe needful, but not cheap in terms of Iranian lives, already there are dead in the tens of thousands )
And Obama's Wars are ongoing, as we speak. I welcome intelligent suggestions.
I pretty much agree with your comments on Shia, etc. with a serious caveat.
In morally repressed societies filled with underemployed, poorly educated young men there is a great deal of frustrated testosterone in the air And whose fault is that?
I'm all set to echo you if we are talking about D.C., or Detroit, And can point to exactly who is to blame simply by pointing at the political party that has been in charge for over half a century.
And I'm always willing to blame uptight morally overbearing Victorian sex hangup freaks for many of the problems of society.
If you want to put the blame for your comment squarely on the Religion Of Islam and it's pre-medieval, slave selling, women owning and beating, rejection of western civilization...... then I again, have to agree.
Oh, and if you want a little shiver to run up your spine.....
Consider China, it's one child policy, the abortion and murder of girl children ( because a son can support the parents better ) and you have a country with a huge bad ratio of women to men.
Far too many men can, simply, never marry. Not enough women. Homosexuality is oppressed, hard, by the Red Chinese government, and that leaves a generation of Chinese young men who's only chance to get laid is to leave the country, or be in the army that conquers another.
I'm sure no one intended this imbalance and crisis, but it's no less real, and no less a factor in future wars.
The shivers have already gone up my spine about china some years ago. With regard to Turkey and world war 1, leaving Turkey to run things and act as a counterbalance to a communist russian empire was probably a missed opportunity. I disagree that we are seeing a war of Islamic expansion yet. At the moment, the west is merely a useful means of mobilising the troops to adopt a "purer form of Islam" Their first aim is to establish dominance in the Islamic world and deal with the west later. Ergo, continued terrorism on a large scale in Afghanistan, Iraq, Southern Philippines, southern Thailand. Calls for Sharia law in Aceh province in Indonesia and a steady movement to destabilise moderate or secular Islamic states in Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Egypt. As well there are attempts to takeover Libya, Algeria, and Tunisia, Syria and Lebanon. How the Morroccans manage to keep a lid on it is beyond me. One hopes that the Iranians and Saudis keep themselves fully occupied in that little game for the next half-century at least. Remember that ISIL's acronym means: Islamic State in Levant. Meanwhile, in England Theresa May is a conservative hoping to play the Thatcher card. I see no reason why her government will not revisit the responses to the provisional IRA threat against English law. Remember, the people of England and most commonwealth countries are ruled primarily by law, custom and precedent. They do not enjoy all the guaranteed freedoms of the people of the United States. My reference to the thirty years war was an analogy that described the islamic conflict amongst themselves, not our involvement in their affairs. What would finally drag us in fully will probably be when they are powerful enough to push Israel into the sea. Thank goodness the Israelis have nuclear weapons and the Iranians don't(yet). Of course, the idea of your guided orbital iron rods will probably work well until the Pakistanis or Saudis or Iranians actually get a space program of their own happening. Meanwhile to raise the climate change bogey, once that happens and they start running out of food and water to feed a burgeoning population which they haven't prepared for then the proverbial will really hit the fan across the middle east and the North African littoral.
Meanwhile, as to my personal views and politics. Like most people I am formed by experience and family history. That means I come from working class, Irish australian stock with a family history of opposition to people with unearned authority in general and the English in particular. It also means that I grew up with labour party politics and support of Unions i.e. that the collective power of individually weak people can be stronger than the power of institutions and corporations. I have also had an extremely fortunate life. My parents were from the lower end of the working class and pulled themselves up and went without to give me a religious education. But I could have had free schooling of the same standard. As I grew older, I had the benefit, like all australians of health care paid for by the commonwealth, similarly, my education including university was a given provided I paid it back by contributing my taxes. My income in retirement was guaranteed as a consequence of a scheme established to deduct from my earnings. I was never called on to go to war though that was a possibility. My children shared all these blessings. And because of my education I was able to work in education, mostly with disadvantaged children. I tended to regard paying taxes to the commonwealth as a privilege, and a contribution to those who were doing it tougher than me. Similarly, I don't begrudge the state giving out pensions because I have enough that I don't need a pension. I don't mind paying into a private health fund either because I can afford to and it takes the load off the public system. As you can see there are a biases, inconsistencies and prejudices within me like most folk but I suppose I can say: Yeah, I'm a socialist, a Labourite(that would be a liberal in your terms) and I find extreme free market ideas and religious fundamentalism somewhat confusing.
So you think that the current Jihad is not so much expansionist, as an internal conflict?
Or, the desire to conquer is being used as a tool in that inter sect conflict? That makes a lot of sense. Hatred as tool for evil men to gain power, is a common tactic.
One of the major political issues in the U.S. that is taboo for the politicians, is How Socialist do we want to be? and Who controls the money?
Sounds like the Aussies have figured out a nice compromise. Worth discussion.
( rant on U.S. politics deleted. I curse them all with warts. )
Men who perform FGM should have their dicks cut off. Unfortunately, it's usually the women who perform FGM...women who've already had their pink parts cut off...makes it difficult to properly punish them.
Still, an attack perpetrated by an Islamist engaging in jihad. What would be going through your mind if you were in the cathedral of Notre Dame, locked down with sirens blaring outside? Terrorized, maybe?
A list of facts about mohammed was posted on a billboard and muslims and politicians say it's "horrible" and "beneath us".
Yes, the facts about mohamed are horrible and beneath us. If you have a problem with it, you should probably have a problem with islam. Not with the idea of openly publishing facts.
Terrorist attacks are more often Sunni on Shia Muslim attacks than on westerners. These attacks are mostly claimed by ISIS at the moment e.g. Today an armed group including suicide bombers attacked the Iranian parliament and the mausoleum of Khomenei . At least 7 killed and numerous injured. A southern Philippine predominantly Muslim, town is still occupied by an armed group of ISIS affiliates. ISIS Is using the inhabitants of Mosul as human shields. These guys are desperadoes who thought they could be a third force in the struggle between Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia for control of the Middle East .
I'll assume they're getting fed up once they actually do something about it. No, shooting them as they commit terror is reactive and not exactly "doing something about it".
