I have ECM Spy. It works. I have made a few small tweaks to my ECM's programming, primarily to help the bike operate better in high temperatures. Several months ago I decided to try Tuner Pro. It was frustrating to get started with setup. There were references to needed files with no explanation as to what these files were. If I had some knowledge of ECU programming I might have had less trouble... After several tries at getting Tuner Pro running, I set it aside. Last week I decided to try again. This time I found the files, got everything placed properly, connected Tuner Pro to my ECM and had TP read the ECM identification, and then everything came to a halt. Tuner Pro's data acquisition would not start. After several tries. It sits. Is it worth it? What could I find using Tuner Pro that I cannot with ECM Spy? Should I keep trying to find a way to have TunerPro read my ECM's data? |

If only that was true! Even with all my experience I don't know what the hell to do half the time It seriously is a pain in the ass to setup and use like you experienced, but once up and running it will let you adjust nearly any parameter in the ECM. ECMspy is a little bit more simplified, and won't let you easily adjust as much. If you find you can do everything you need, then stick with ECMspy. |

Thanks. I've been reaching that conclusion. Maybe one more try this weekend... |

I noticed that there seems to be two modes to tunerpro. one is turn bike on, let cel go out. open tunerpro. it will recognize the bueib hardware and all my maps, values etc. are in the charts. but i cant seem to get live data. two, just opposite. open tunerpro. then turn bike on. doesnt seem to recognize bueib hardware but then i seem to have a live data mode going, watch tps move ,etc. Ive been confused before, but i cant seem to figure out where to go then. ive one idle datalog that ive done but still cant remember how i did that. its been well over 6 months since fooling with it. every now and again i'll reload it and look at it but mostly stay with version 2 spy. its what ive trusted for maintenance on my 07 12x. altho i'm not giving up on it yet. Mark, what changes have you made to yours for better running in the heat? |

Primarily, I worked with the fan-on and fan-off settings. The most successful change was setting the fan to switch on at a lower temperature. I'd have to check to see where I set things. Now, the fan comes on sooner but comes on early enough that it can actually bring the temperature down enough that it will cycle off after a bit. Before, once the fan was on it would stay on. |

Mark - There's nothing complicated about TunerPro or the setup. It's just not as user-friendly as ECMSpy. If you can successfully 'Initialize Emulation Hardware' and upload/download a bin to/from the ECM, but data acquisition isn't working, then it is likely due to one of two things: 1. Be sure to select "Release Emulation Hardware" before using data acquisition. 2. There's a problem with the .adx file There are multiple DDFI-2 .adx files floating around, and I recall at least one of them having incorrect parameters that could prevent the dash/monitors from working. Which one are you using? |

The .adx file is titled BUEYD_V5 I won't be back home until the 13th, so I won't be trying anything until then. I cannot recall if I used "Release Emulation Hardware". I know that I did not load anything to the ECM. Not sure about download though, I don't remember. |

Mark, I'm primarily into tweaking the fan logic as well. I was having trouble getting any version of TunerPro to talk to the ECM, even though ECM Spy was communicating no problem. Since the unregistered version of ECM Spy can download and upload ECM data (but not edit), this is what worked for me: • Used ECM Spy to retrieve ECM data (saves as .xpr) • Kept the original ECM file somewhere safe. • Edited a copy of the .xpr file with Tuner Pro (not RT) and saved in a descriptive folder. Tuner Pro saves the file as .bin. • Uploaded the new ECM data (now .bin) to the bike using ECM Spy. I've saved two configurations that I am using seasonally -- one is the old non-speed based fan logic for cold season, and the other is the new speed based fan logic, but with lowered "key off" fan temps for hot season. |

I will have to give that a try. Thanks for the direction. |

There is a very good workaround for all this as well. Just not cheap. We can support the programmer that supports the brand, by buying an IDS programmable ECM with PCM license, that includes real, American support. $630 but a portion of that also goes to charity. IDSPD.com |
