For some unknown reason I have a soft spot for the Blast even though I have never ridden one. So is it possible to make one into a decent bike? They are mostly dirt cheap so I wouldn't mind throwing a few dollars at one. I like thumpers and have had a SR500 and a KLR650, the blast would be different. I already have the Uly and a few Guzzi's so different works for me.

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. I find it to be a decent bike already, as it is dirt cheap to buy, insure, maintain, crash, and operate. I like it for commuting to save tires and wear on the bigger bikes.

At 6'4", even I like the blast.

For short rides anyway.

Tossable, lightweight, goes where you want it the instant you want it to, relatively indestructible....

I've got several Blasts, one has M2 forks, 17" wheels, modded swing arm to use 17" rear wheel, Pro series cams, intake and exhaust. I love riding it to work. Runs fine up to 80+ mph with traffic with more to spare. It comes out as often as the tubers do because it's so much fun. Down side is its small, so keep an eye out for drivers who think its a scooter and pull out in front of you. All in on my Blast I'm under $2500.
I'd say go for it, you can ride it for a few years and sell it for what you paid for it.

Look in the Blast section, specifically for EZ's profile and multiple postings.
Blasts can be fun to own and mod' out.

The only part of the Blast that I really did not like was the seat. Way too soft.

It was pretty annoying to have to remove the footpeg mount in order to access the clutch adjustment, but once learned the shortcuts it was not too bad.

Otherwise, I really liked the blast. It seemed a reliable, durable, economical, commuter.

Don't feel bad about your Blast lust Sprintex, I have it too and I'm strongly leaning towards picking one up next year.

I'm really interested in Kmbuell's suspension and fork mods to run 17" wheels. The selection of decent 16" rubber is pretty slim.

I have an 01 that we call "Blastulys". I fixed the seat problem with a Uly Low seat and as long as I had to extend the upper frame I hooked it up with a set of Uly side bags and brackets, then painted it Barricade Orange to light it up in traffic. It has a V&H header and is tuned for it. It will run 85+.

If I were inclined to get deeper into it, the next thing I would do is look into the 17" wheels and then match up the bigger brakes. After that I would look into forks and shocks. But then it becomes why.....buy an XB9 to start.

Oh, ours is handy and fun for those quick short trips to town, but with the Uly seat I have done 200 mile rides without a problem. Scooting my ass up on the pilon makes it all good.

Former Blast owner here. Yes, buy one. Heck buy two, they're cheap enough. I'll always have a soft spot in my hear for the Blast. Cost nothing to run, reliable as an anvil and will do most anything you ask of it. Just a great little fun toy.

Mine had a burn out Vance and Hines and you could hear that little beast for miles when I was getting into it...

V&H burned out? What? I could not hear you!

This thing can be ridden 100 feet behind me while I am on my Uly, as we go under an overpass all that can be heard is the thumping of the Blast even at 60 mph. Loud little buggar! The wife said she likes it that way so that she can be heard in traffic.

Blast in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska

Had a "blast" with this Blast. Granted the Uly was a more comfortable ride, but this little bike has run down to 15 degrees F and was always fun. Ground clearance in the mud was a little rough.

That is so cool. My hat is off to you for doing that on anywhere near a stock seat! Damn! Alaska trip on a Blast. I like it!

I have one for my wife and I let her ride with me as a passenger. That's over 400lbs. The bike torques up and tackles the hills in northeast Pennsylvania no problem. My only complain would be the mushy front forks. The bike does everything well and the gas mileage is amazing!

The blaats are, well a blasr lol. Decent bike depends on what that means. They're fun to ride and cheap. Take a beating and keep going. But they are what they are. Ezblast has had a few I've had the pleasure of riding and they were fun as hell. I started on a blast, moved to my xb then got another blast to play with. Had to get rid of it due to soace reasons. If i ever get my garage in order I'll probably get another one

Are those blast belts easy to find?
Are they found anywhere else?

Blast belt is unique to the Blast, so you have to source it from a Buell dealer just like a Uly belt. The Blast belt is much cheaper though.
