Ok. I've been searching the site, but I can't seem to find anywhere this was addressed. So here's the story and the problem. About 3 months ago my bike stalled on the freeway. I got a truck and trailer to get me home and tore the bike down for the first time. I found both cam followers broken on the intake valves of the rear cylinder. I replaced those. Reassembled. The first time I started it it was ticking. So I shut it off and rotated the engine again. I had the timing chain off by a tooth. So I fixed that, reassembled and rode it for about 2 weeks. It was running rough the whole time. Missing at rpm's lower the 4,000. Backfiring like crazy when ever I let off the throttle. So I tore it down again. Took the head off and replaced both intake valves. While I had it apart, I regapped both cylinders valves. Gapped the plugs. Changed the oil, and changed the coolant. Put it all back together. It was ok for maybe the first 20 miles or so. But I've got about 200 miles on it now, and it's back to running really rough. And backfiring like crazy. Its also running really hot now. 205 with AT of 94. I reset the tps last night and verified its going from 2% to 100%. I really need some help here. |

Just off the top of my head, are you certain you are timing the cams properly? Have you looked at the CPS? (Crank position sensor) Sometimes in other engines, they get cluttered up with metallic particles, and they interfere with the proper sensing of the crank position. Don't know if this happens in Buells or not... |

I'm getting no codes. I've looked several times. |

It was running rough the whole time. Missing at rpm's lower the 4,000. Backfiring like crazy when ever I let off the throttle. That sounds a lot like mine the backfiring sounded like popcorn popping run one 1 cylinder at times but I had a lot of codes. It was a coil pack went bad you can get a pair on ebay for about $50. You can change the front one without rotating the motor its not easy though I hope its that. Thats better than motor rotation good luck. |

At this point. I've gotten rotation down to about an hour. And engine removal to 2. So it's no big deal. But, Thanks I'll try the coil packs. |
